Got the sled for free, went through it 100%, everything is in great shape- I'm just not sure about a few things. What is the air screw setting for the carbs? these are some crazy old mikunis with the main jet screwed into a fitting at the bottom of the float bowl. Next the primary clutch spring is junk and engages at idle speed, I put in a spring from an xlt, sled goes good but engagement slams in at about 4500 and jerks the sled, is this because the wgts are too light for the spring? RPM at wot seems to be about 7000, haven't had a chance to do any long runs yet.
What is a good wgt/spring setup for this sled or should I just get a new spring(original, and whats is the orig spring?) Also what should I be looking at for peak rpm? I heard these engines are bulletproof, any input? Can't wait to get this little beast out for fun, oh yeah, my 'Big Sled' is an 03 700XC.

stock weights were M1mod, and a green primary spring, rpm should be 7,000-7,2000. helix was a 34 with the red or red/white secondary spring in hole # 2. gearing was 19-35 belt was a 042
mains 230, pilot 35, screw normally 3/4 to 1 1/2. maybe start at 1 open
Br9es NGK plug gapped to .020

Believe it or not local dealer pretty much looked at me like I was crazy for asking this kind of stuff, couldn't even give a "best guess" scenario.
