anybody run 1.450 tall studs in a 1 1/4 ripsaw on last years or this years Fusion? they clear the tunnel ok?
kornmenow
I did and haven't had any clearance problems. Woody's signature studs.

FYI, Just installed (120) 1.375" down the middle on my Fusion 600HO 1.25" ripsaw and they are great. I think this is the best combination between traction and stud pressure. Pray for snow! :fluffy: :fluffy:

Dave, Guys have been going larger than 1.45... One thing to keep in mind is how the stud is measured by the mfg... Woody's 1.375 don't offer much penetration above the lug, maybe 1/4 inch. I bought the 1.45 Woody's and haven't even questioned whether they'll fit.
polaris9500
i ran 1.625 extreme .5 over lug no probs hitting, should have used 1.525

I've got 1.450 woody's gold diggers but haven't installed them yet, (sled not in yet) But I was told not to worry about using tall nuts. Have you had experience with the studs bending with the short nuts????

You shouldn't have any problem's with them, just make sure you buy the rear protector's. also I'm not sure if the 06's are the same as last years cause the 05's didnt have any idler wheels in the center & i found it didnt hook up well , then i added more to the outside, after that it hooked up great.

I ran 144 Woody's Sig. Ser. studs last year with an inside, out side pattern only to find that after 1300 mi. with angled backer that my outside studs were wasted and my inside studs were either bent or the backers were pulled and had oblonged holes with a 5/16 stud. The tall nuts were brand new from last year and were backordered when I needed them, so I went with the regular stainlesss nuts. I was told by Woody's that 1.325 was all they recommend as far as ht. above the track width, and I went with 1.325". My sled would not hook up, and as much as I would like to increase the length of the stud, I would trust Woody's over these posts. I would run 192 studs with this sled with 48 double backers in the center. IMO

I installed woody's 1.450's (144) down the middle with the tunnel protectors on my 06 Dragon!
Also remember 2 use the long nuts!
Polaris and Woody's told me not 2 stud anything outside on the ripsaw just down the middle! :div20:

Good Luck!

I used the short nuts on my 02 800 with 1.25 ripsaw 144 and bent or snapped 25 studs in about 1500 miles, last year 4200 miles on Fuze with tall nuts no problem.

4200 hard miles no problems with tall nuts.

Why ya'll keep calling 'em "tall nuts."

You guys insecure about not having "Big Nuts?"

I didn't shop any others, but Woody's calls 'em.....

Big Nut

The aluminum Big Nut with a 5/16" - 24 threads provides added support to longer length studs. It is available in two sizes. Use ALN-7000 for 1.450" studs and longer. Use ALN-4500 for 1.325" studs and shorter. Packaged in quantities of 24, 96 and 1000 pieces.

When installing Big Nuts, use only the Star Lock washers provided in the package. This washer, HSW-500-0, must be used for proper installation.

E-mailed Rod @ Woody's. He recommended 144 1.375's sing/dbl pattern down middle only. Was thinking of goin with angled backers??? dunno.gif Will I have to upsize to 1.450's to get hookup? Thoughts...........

I tried the down the middle thing a couple years ago and it worked ok on the trail. Lined up on the lake and all it would do is spin a trench. Not enough scratch lines

That's why I'm thinking angled backers. Woody's said thats the way to go if ya run on the lakes along w/ trail riding.

Just wondering how the angled backers aid in traction. Please elaborate. Thanks.........

Quote from Rod @ Woody's:

"The angled support plates are fine to use in the trail, and for your 600 having enough power the answer is yes. The real questions is are you spending a fair amount of time playing on the lakes racing? If you are then it is probably a good idea to use the angled support plates, but if all you are doing is trail riding then it may be a waist of time".

Outside studs get most of the abuse because of the idler wheel pressure, which is non existant on the inside.

What ft lbs did you torque the big nuts to? I see woodys recommends 15ft lbs.

I think the center pattern would be ok if you add idler wheels to the center :cn:

Finally got a chance to post pics of my studs. I went with a 168 pattern with 120 down the middle and 48 on the outsides. I used Fast-trac TopGun II's with Fast-trac Airlite XL backers. The backers have a raised center so standard nuts are all you need. Got them from RPC who has had them backordered for a while. Can't wait to get out and see how it hooks up.

I used the same studs from RPC 144 down the middle. I believe there is to much bite in the corners to try and slide it around with studs on the outside. My hookup is not great though. What I want to know is when is someone going to offer a inside wheel kit that is proven with clearance issues, perhaps with the flood of more fusion skids out there the aftermarket will look into this. I need more track pressure down the middle. Someone I recall made there own last year but I never heard the final results. dunno.gif Click to view attachment
