Well, I have driven (in my car) past a few of the trail heads, and some of the trails run along side the road, or close enough to see from the road, and I see that a few over-anxious people have already been out on the trails. Saw 3 sleds parked in front of a bar at the end of my street. People will just never realize that it is this kind of shit that gets our trails closed year after year. People so impatient that they cannot wait another 3 weeks for the trails to open. They have to go out now, when the trails are not ready, and tear up the grass of the land owners. Now it is melting and all there is is mud and sled marks. Heard some idiot also mowed down an 8 year old girl on his sled. Now the clubs have to listen to the complaints from land owners and hunters about thier grass being ripped up, or seeing sleds rip past while they are in thier tree stands. Riding season is just a few weeks away. Hold your horses, and wait with the rest of us, instead of fucking it up for the rest of us. I would hate to think that someone that belongs to this site would have the lack of respect of land owners, hunters, and the rest of their snowmobiling bretheren, to already be out. Hey, if your tuning up on your own private land, more power to you. But I am talking about the dickheads ripping down the public club funded trails that we all enjoy throughout the season. Have some respect. Our season is coming. Patience is a virtue.

agreed.... i had a friend ask me the oter night if i wanted to go riding with him... i told him it was still hunting season and the trails were still closed... he told me well the hunters dont hunt at night and you can ride around the fences.... and this guy wonders why people dont wana ride with him

I agreed too every year we have to go out and find a new way around somebodys land that got pissed off because smoeboby rode on his yard before the end of hunting season

OK ease up on the rider that killed the young kid. It was an accident that couldn't have been avoided. The rider came over a hill and struck some kids sledding. He was in an open field that he was always seen riding in, come on we all done it before.. Purely an accident...

But the assholes out riding on public trails, thats a stupid move. I only hope when these assholes are forced to join a snowmobile club that they will understand how difficult it is to secure land.

Don't count heavily on it. Most of them think it's all about me,me,me.

I rode up on Tug hill today. Seasonal roads are open. Trails are not. If we see a hunter in a truck we pull over and let them pass. Of course some drive the roads and just look to shoot deer from their trucks. But I agree local trails should not be used.

Very , very well put.

Sorry to hear on the news tonight that an 8 year was killed. This poor guy on the sled will never be the same again. Every time he sees a young kid the memory will return. Not something any of us want to face. I pray that the child's family has the support they need to overcome this tragedy.

Whether he has ridden there or not, stick to the trails, wait for them to open. The trails are for the sport of snowmobiling and that's the only place they should be. I hope this never happens again, we should all know better.

you have to check the club where you are riding OldForge all the way to Piseco Lake is Dec.5 TugHill Dec 15 and down south alot of trail don't open until Dec.21

what trails open on dec. 12???
otterbob
when clubs get permission from landowners it is a promise to the landowner that there is no sledding before hunting season ends. when someone rides before, the landowner blames the club, not the idiot who rode. day or night.

whats goin to happen is someone is goin to ride preason and kill themselves on a chain or fence across a trail. then comes the lawsuits.

this is off topic but here it goes:
some dude two seasons ago was riding his sled and got off the side of a trail and hit a culvert. he broke his leg and totalled his sled. otherwise fine.
he is suing the township for $54 million dollars! area townships have already had meetings on this and are considering shutting down seasonal roads that are trails around here. nice, just fuckin nice.

yea some people can be so stupid when it comes to stuff like that.... already seen tracks up on the state trails around here..... wish we could find out exactly who it was

Yes, I am saying stick to marked trails. If fields are marked by a club, ride those too. Wait for the season to open. Safer for everyone if you stick to the trails .
