My brother wants me to take my machine up to his in-laws place in Copenhagen between Christmas and New Years. I would be traveling fom Mass, so I want to make sure the trip is worth it if I go. What area is this in (ie Tug hill, Old Forge, Adirondaks, etc?). I know I need to register in NY ($45?), but what about trail permit? Conditions this time of year - will it be a rat - race? I assume I'll also need insurance? Any help is appreciated - thanks in advance, J.P.

Yes the area your talking about is on the northern fringe of Tug Hill. They do get alot of snow every year and Tug Hill is just about 3 miles south of Copenhagan. There are miles of trails and doubt you'll hit them all in 1 week, thats how vast the region is. If they have enough snow during Christmas, I'd say load up and go. Last couple of years have been kinda lame for snowfall, it just came alittle later. For the most part they have enough snow during Christmas. Matter-of-fact they have 2 feet in Tug Hill now, but with 55 degree weather this week, its gonna be gone. Trail permits are not required in the Tug Hill area, but if you head East towards Old Forge, you'll need to purchase a permit. Don't bother, you'll have more then enough riding on Tug Hill. As the time nears, check out AbsoluteSnowmobile.com for the latest trail conditions.
I'll post a couple pics. The bottom picture is actually taken up near Copenhagen
