I may be picking up a 1996 440 indy sport tomorrow, I would like to stud the track eventually and was wondering what size studs and how many, center?? and how these sleds are with them, I was told some sleds , when you put studs on them, it will tear up the underneath?? I have no clue , thats why i asking some seasoned vets like yourselves... I know the track is pretty new , and it was done with a stock replacement track. nothing fancy...

heres the link http://www.snowslickers.org/cgi-bin/ikonbo...ct=ST;f=9;t=182

also anything to look for on the sled for problems??

thanks alot,, tony

I'd put in 72 .875 tall studs in the center belt, you'll also probably have to put tunnel wear strips in the tunnel. Doubtfull that they are in there. They keep the studs from hitting and ripping up the tunnel and fuel tank, very important.

Cool, thank you for your response.. I didn't know what size to get.. Also the tunnel strips, I didn't know if this sled would need them. or even if all do..lol
again thanks,, I hope I get it tomorrow.. I've been looking for a couple of months and every good deal I find gets bought up before I get there...... tony

No more than 72 for sure.

I would just ask your dealer for tunnel protectors for your specific model. They should be able to fix you up.

well good news ,, I just bought my new sled, its a 1995 xlt 600, and really great shape, already studded, engine was just rebuilt last season with a brand new clutch, the guy is super anal about his sleds, and everthing is either new or rebuilt, has new plastic skis with carbides, he just put 1600 into it last season and put 300 miles on it since, he bought a new sled that he always wanted, so he sold this one,, he really didn't seem like he wanted to sell it at all!!
I'm really happy, can't wait for a bit more snow.... thanks, guys for your suggestions on the 440,, I liked the sled, just wasn't crazy about it.. but it was a good deal for 800 bucks..

Congrats, and unless you'll only be riding with other leaf blowers you will be much happier with the 600. You would have found the 440 fan to be inept before very long.
