I got a 1997 Indy 500 and have some guestions about gearing. I want my snowmobile to have more acceleration and less top speed. I want about 80 mph tops. Right now I have had the speedo at about 103 on super hard packed snow, but I'm sure the speedo is off a little so prolly around the 95 range. I was wondering what gears to get and what chain to get after I get the gears. I believe the gearing right now is 21/39. I was looking at clutch kits and found a Hot Seat clutch kit and that the only one i could find. Any other brands make kits for a Indy 500? How about exhaust? Thanx for the help.

Gear it to 20/40, with stock chain, definately get the hot seat kit, they work well for that sled. Lean the main jets down 1-2 sizes from stock. Have the clutch alignment checked, set the engine torque stop tight, no air gap, and the primary clutch belt clearance set to .020" no looser with a new 3211070 belt and the hot seat weights. Don't bother with any different exhaust, none gain anything with out engine mods. You could have the stock exhaust and y-pipe ceramic coated. You will need studs, or a deeper lug track to see the most improvment with the lower gears and clutch kit.

hi-perf engineering should have them, or erlandson. You need 13W X spline top gear, and regular 13W bottom I believe.
