Hey, I'm from NH and I'm lookin for a place for our annual trip. Was wondering if anyone had any info on tug hill area? I've heard alot of talk. The kind of riding we do is.... alot of backcountry riding, jumps, drifts, drop offs, open fields of powder. Trail riding is ok, but, the other stuff is what we're really lookin for, is there alot of that kind of riding in the tug hill area or no? Any info would be much appreciated, thanks!!!

Most of Tug Hill is heavy wooded, very few chances to ride off trail. Besides, riding off trail is illegal in NY state because 80% of our trails are on private property. Why chance ruining our trail system for your weekend of enjoyment. I'm not trying to sound like a mean old bastard, but its very difficult to secure land to ride on. There are a few lakes up on the Hill to blast and no one will give you grief for doing so. You can stay at the The Edge Hotel for any lodging you might need. You'll also be required to register your sled in NY State to be legal, cost is $45 per sled. Tug Hill averages about 200+ inches of snow a year, so lack of it would be hardly be the case.

If I lived in N.H the last place I would go is tug hill.Canada or Maine are a hell of a lot better than Tug Hill.Riding on the weekends is like going into boston during rush hour.

I'll argue this one bud. I've rode the Hill a lot and you just have to be careful, that's all. Hell, I take my family with me alot. Alot. You just need to be careful. The same as you would operating a motor vehicle anywhere.

Ummmmmmmm, Yep
Hope to be there again within the next month. That would be awsome if we were riding up there before Christmas. Even more awsome if Tug Hill has snow between Christmas and New Years, I'm off that week.

Thanks guys for all the replies and pictures!! I appreciate everyone comin through with the advice!! Ya, I guess it sounds like it's not really my cup of tea. I just booked our trip a couple miles out of Diamond Pond in Northern NH. Our trail system is mostly on private land as well, but, theres always places in the mountains that it's ok to ride off trail. Again, thanks for all the replies!

I ride old forge and tug hill. I personally think old forge offers alot more to do but the down side is they require you to buy a trail pass. Either place is a nightmare on the weekends. Its super crowded, the trails are torn to crap and there's drunks riding out of control everywhere. That being said, either place is great if you ride sunday thru thursday. I use to race up there every friday night so I could hit the trails. With age comes wisdom, now I stay home and spent time with my wife and kids on friday night. I sleep in saturday morning then once I gather my gear I head north arriving mid afternoon. As usual by sat. afternoon its packed and torn up. I spent that afternoon and evening enjoying the local establishments :beerchug: We get up early on sunday morning and RIDE!!. The groomers have been out all night and the trails are awesome. Most of the weekend warriors from friday night and saturday are heading home. My friends and I do all our riding sunday, monday and sometimes we'll stay till tuesday. The down side of this plan is you have to save some vacation days to do it but the riding is AWESOME!!!! OK the moral of the story is don't waste your time riding friday and saturday. Just my .02
