Full Version: 02' 800 Exhaust valve shims
HCS Snowmobile Forums > Snowmobile Forums > Arctic Cat General Discussion > ZR/ZL forum

BARFY
I made a few sets of .024" thick shims for the 02' 800.
I saw somewhere in another post someone was going to have some lasered out.
That same post also had a couple of people asking if they could get some made.
Well, I have a few sets left if anyone is interested. I'm not to sure about shipping north of the border and I don't know how I could receive payment.
Any suggestions?

You can accept money orders for payment. I have sold about 10 sets so far and have another order in for fifty more. It will be about 10-14 days until I can ship more. I charge $10.00 per set including shipping. You can send payment to:

I have a 2001 ZR 800 with a PSI 1010 big bore kit. Would I still need these?

Thanks,

Did anyone think to check and see if the "guy that came up with the idea" may have perhaps slapped a patent on the idea? dunno.gif
super sled
Is this something that is needed, Is there a problem with the valve hitting the pistons, what are some of the reasons you guys have been seeing that the valve needs to be shimmed thanks

That is some great information (that I actually read earlier) but it still does not answer my question regarding if I would need to do it with my 2001 ZR 800 with a PSI 1010 big bore kit. Any thoughts???

Thanks,
Dean

I guess it depends on how much extra room they machined / shimmed into the valves...............maybe give em a call.
magic568
If the cylinders are machined like the stock cylinders then it would stand to reason that shimming would still be required. If the bore is different, I would assume the manufacturer would account for the different tolerances between the valve and piston. If you can address this issue with the tech department at PSI that would be where to direct your question.

Regarding the earlier post about about a patent, I happened to own a sled with a serious mechanical issue. I have the ability to produce the part to correct this problem. I made some extra pieces for some friends I met on the website with the same issue. I am not marketing, promoting or trying to a profit from this product. I just want to help others avoid costly repairs. I am just a fabricator trying to help other people who share the same interests as I do. If anyone out there feels I have violated any patent laws I sincerely apologize.

Best regards,
Mike

I bought a set of these from Barfy and they are awesome. Machined perfect. I bought another set from a different guy on here and they were a little too "home made" for my liking.

Why don't you just use correct size washers for spacers?

I'm in for some as well.

Ironman, are you seriously buying shims from someone else then turning around and selling them for a profit on the same site!! It would appear to me you don't have the shims that I already paid you $25 for 2 days ago since your just trying to buying them today. I have heard he sells them for $15. I know it's a free country and all but that seems real shady to me. I hope you can retire well on the $10 you just made!
El-Rush
Barfy you could also ask for a paypal payment which would auto convert without all the troubles. A set would end up costing alot more than the actual price to the recipient tho.

Another close call.

Haha yeh that was me...bought the sled that way tho. I was lucky it didn't blow on me after i had bought it tho that would have totally sucked.
I'm getting alot of side to side play on the valve tho...are they all doing that? Not rly looking to spend even more into guillotines and the valve seat piece after my new top end and all i have to get already.

Nothing wrong with what he's doing. No one else is selling the shims. If he can get them to sell he should be able to make a profit. He certainly made it easy for me as I couldn't find them anywhere and was reluctantly getting ready to make a set for my bud's 900, but sent him an email had a set the next day. Well worth the $25 IMO.
