I currently have a 2002 XC SP 800 that is getting some new toys this year. The sled has 1000 miles on it and is mostly used in Illinois and Michigan. So I need a little help on clutching, gearing and a few other things. My goal it to make the sled faster. First it is getting the titanium exhaust valves should I change the springs? If so which one should I go with? I have already done the SLP air box mod and getting the vents for the dash next week. I plan to put 490 jets in it or should I use 480 and I ride in different temperatures so I don't want to have to rejet every other day. Or should I just leave the 500 in it? I will be using the Tracksusa kit to stretch my sled to a 136" I plan to use the 9800c 1.5 track. Has any one used this track or is there a better 1.5 to use? Is a big wheel kit worth the money? If so is there a certain company's to use? Should I change the gearing of the sled if so what should I put in? Also what should I do about the clutch with the 136" track? I'm currently using a EPI 52/40 Progressive Helix, maroon primary and black secondary springs. The weights are 72 from Speedwerx. What should I change to compensate for the bigger track? Any thing else you would recommend to put on the sled? Thanks for the help and I appreciated it. :help:

I've got an 02 XC 800 and have done what you want to do. I used the TracksUSA 136" extension along with the 8" wheel kit & 1 1/2" lug. My motor has an SLP fatty single and can ceramic coated, V-Force III reeds, SLP Big Horn airbox mod, two flowrites in the dash and a fairly decent clutch set-up. With this set-up it is an absolute monster!!!! There is no need to change gearing with this combination, there is way more than enough power to turn the heavier track. This year I'm thinking about taking the 1 1/2" track off and putting on a 1 1/4 Ripsaw so I can run stud's for even better hook :div20: I looked at TracksUSA's website and see they now offer a 1 1/2" Ripsaw........decisions decisions dunno.gif

On the VES springs, try either green/yellow or pink/yellow. Some say the green/yellow is recomended with the Ti valves.
Try the stock 500 jets first and lift the needle with a .020 spacer. Use only good 91 oct or better with key in "prem".

With 1.5" 136" track you need to gear down to around 1.7 to 1.8 ratio.

That also sounds like too much helix for the stuff you want to run. I would suggest something like a 52/36 compound progressive. Black spring should be ok.

In the primary, the maroon is a very high engagement spring, you may need to back off to a yellow or red in EPI or Alm/red Alm/blue using polaris springs. The 72g weights may be ok, it depends what profile speedworx weight you have and how much helix/spring you run with it.
With a polaris profile weights 68g or 70g are very popular. Depending on the other stuff you are running in your clutch setup.

What kind of clutch setup are you using? Where did you get the 8" wheel kit? Thanks for the help.

xc8rider can I get the needle spacers from Polaris? To gear down to a 1.7 or 1.8 would I change the big gear or the small one? Also what size should I use? Changing the gearing around is something new for me. I'm not sure what profile the Speedworx weights are. I will have to look at the paper work on them. Any other tips you can give me will be appreciated.

There is a kit you can buy which is made by exhaust gas technologies(EGT) called a 5/20 kit. It contains a .010, .020 and .030 spacers which is good for fine tuning the needle.

Maybe somebody from the US can chime in and tell you where U can order them from.

You have different options for gearing. If you have mech. reverse, the only bottom gears you can get are a 39T, 40T and a 41T

I can email you a gearing chart which shows the different ratios possible if you like??

Speedworx 72g weights are either S1(tapered tip) or Q72(heavy tip). The latter are prob too heavy for your application.

I'm running what SLP recommend's for the mod's I have done. It's not spot on but pretty good. You can get the 8" wheel kit right from TracksUSA. When ordering the extension kit you must tell them you want the 8" wheel extension kit or they will send you one that requires the use of stock wheel's.

I have a 02 800 and have a decent set up, here is the basic idea, go soft spring in primary and stick with the 66's from polaris. Shape of weight is key. secondary likes close to stock top end of helix, good for big MPH, and silver blue spring. Don't rev it past 8000, I have Vf3's and full porting, Big Wheel kit from Tri-city, and open ripper after muffler, Ti upgrade valves, Check your carbs for syncronicity, make sure open all the way, and give it some fuel. ROCKS spins 168 double backer picks at 80mph

xc8rider My sled does not have reverse. SLP recommends that I use a 24 and 41 with a 76 pitch chain. I believe that is the stock chain. What do you think about their helix's? They said to go with a 52/34 since I weight 160 with stock springs for the primary/secondary and 68 gram weights they make. Next year I will add their single exhaust and can and only have to change the jets and springs. Still deciding on the best route to go with the clutch setup. Can you email me the gearing chart? Thanks for the help.

With the Tri-city bigwheel kit did you get the ones that mount inside of the rails? Which helix did you use? Thanks

Was this "failing oil pump" happening with the 99 XC 700's as well.

Mine seems to smoke a lot more now also.

Do I need a new pump (if this is the issue) or can I turn it down accordinely instead? (with plug checks, of course)

Polaris 68 and 70 gram, 10 series wts. are alot cheaper and do the same thing, save some money on them.
