Erie Addict
hello, Just found this forum searching the net. Transfered down hear from Wi. Not much snowmobiling going on in Central ohio. Is there any place to ride in North Eastern Ohio in the snow belt? Any one riding this weekend?

Hey Erie Addict,

I plan on getting out Tgiving day early. Heading to a state park near Newberry. It's a small area, but I just need some miles on my new sled to break it in. Will hook up in the morning. I'm just outside of Cleveland. Send me a PM if you want to meet somewhere.

Well! I have tried to contact ANYONE in the Cleveland Area for a place to ride! I live in Kentucky, Have 2 sleds I can be to Cleveland in 4 hrs! Any help please! I need Clubs, places to ride! Thank you!

KY Sledneck,

I only have a kitchen pass for a couple of hours being Thanksgiving and a 2 week old baby, I guess I cannot complain. I haven't hooked up with any clubs yet, been meaning to make those calls. The OSSA (http://www.ossa.snowclubs.com) have several clubs and cheaps dues. I just received their latest mag and some of the clubs must now be defunct has the clubs on the website do not match those in the mag. Most do however. I doubt I will get out any other day but tomorrow.
I did ride around the yard tonight and managed to tear the hell out of the grass.

Cheers,

TM

Well I hope none of the ohio guys take offense to this, but there is pretty much nothing in the way of a trail system in ohio. In the far north east part of the state there is the greenway trail system. It isn't very long though and there are quite a few restrictions. No studs is one of them. And if you go that far, you can go just go a little farther to New York in Chautauqua County. They have a very nice trail system and get some nice lake effect. Great for a 2 to 3 day trip. Where I live it's about 8 to 9 hours to either Tug Hill N.Y. or to the bridge for the U.P. (Akron-Cleveland area) Don't know if that is any help, but that's the best I can think of. dunno.gif

What about some of the Ohio park sysytems. Last winter we were ice fishing up around Catawba and stumbled upon East harbor State park. There were several trails, nothing major, but a place to ride. How about Portage, mosquito or any of the other parks? Just looking for a place 2-3 hours away to put some miles on when there is no snow here.

Snow Gladiator is correct. The Ohio trail system is very short and somewhat restrictive. But it is better than not riding at all. Push into upstate NY or upper part of the lower MI and the trails are excellent, but it's a journey.

I manage to get out yesterday and buzz around some relatives property and in a yet to be developed development. Sled ran real good once I got the dealership gas out of it. snow was about 8 - 12' but ground beneath was still soft. The 1.25" track would find it's way to terra firma pretty quick.

If it doesn't warm up, I may try Punderson this weekend.

Punderson is right across the street from my house, it's not exactly paradise, but it's convienient, and alot of fun to just go and hit the small trail system. There's some decent riding in the class "A" campgrounds cause they don't plow the roads, there's some small hillclimbs and twisty hairpin curves ect. A fun place to kill a few hours on a snowmobile. The trails are connected to the chalet- sled riding hill, so you can take a break from riding and have a snack, sit by the fire, or sled ride. We spend alot of time over there with the family and the sleds. It's a nice thing to have so close. If your ever coming out, PM me and we'll meet you over there.

You are correct, there isn't much in the way of public trails in this area, just alot of treehugger trails that have been stolen from clubs over the years. Fortunately, there are many local clubs to join that have FORMIDABLE trail systems(hundreds of miles combined). Pick up a copy of the O.S.S.A. newsletter for the listings. These clubs are always welcoming new members they include,Troy snowmobile association, Thompson ledge runners, Parkman polar bears, to name a few, and they all have very nice trail systems. All you have to do is join, pay some dues, and volunteer for a trail cleanup or activity once in a while :div20:

I camp at East Harbor at Cawtaba and yes there are trails there but they are not much at all. You might be disappointed!! Your best bet is the Cleveland area they are talking about.

Hey, maybe we could plan a day trip to Cleveland and all ride together???

Interested as I've never been there myself.

Good idea!!! :div20:

That does sound like a good idea. I don't know much about the Cleveland area though. The punderson area aounds interesting. Found some info on the Greenway trail around Ashtabula, but they don't allow studs. rules me out of that area. Pray for cold and snow!
Talonman
This weekend is looking good fellas. Sunday works for me, if the snow holds and the trails are open.
