Alright, I hate it when people post these types of questions in the Fcat forum without searching (I did search), but I was wondering what problems/concerns/etc. to look for on a 99 Mach Z.

My friend just bought one in pretty great shape (1800 miles). It has Jaws pipes and the TRA's I believe have been adjusted. I went through and cleaned and adjusted the clutches (center to center, etc.), and also cleaned out/synched the carbs for him. I am just trying to get his sled set up as best as possible for him and make sure its good to go for this season.

Anything else to look for?

TIA.

Crank bearing on the mag side are known to be short lived. The electrical problems the 98 had were resolved by 99.I believe the 99 had the updated stator, which goes bad on quite a few mach z's.Also, chech the front arm on the rear suspension for cracks.

Well we took it out to a field and it seems to only be running on 2 cylinders. Going to run through the usual stuff (i.e. spark plugs, wires, etc.). The motor runs fine just seems short a cylinder. Hopefully its not anything big. THanks for the input.

The front arm on the 99 is almost twice the size of the 98 so there really isnt an issue unless you are pounding it hard. As far as running on two cylinders, could be stator, could be a stuck choke, fouled plug, etc

I have a 99 Mach Z w/ 3400 miles on it it's a very good running sled a little heavy for the trails all the electrical and susp. problem's were fixed for 99 you need to torque arm coushin and belt alignment thats is the only problem I ever had whith mine sience it was new..p.s. they like 8400 rpm. for top speed in the 660ft. and 8800 rpm. for wide open on the lake.
You can also adjust your rpm. by turning the tra adjusters up for + or down for - eatch number will change your rpm 200-250 for eatch position on the clutch

I had a 99 with a dead cyl. it would come and go everybody thought it was electrical.!!!!!3 dealers all stumped . took to 4th Rob's in Jefferson Creek WI and the found I had a crank seal bad on middle cyl. sometimes it would seal and some times not . Also they did have problems with stators in 99 also new stator number for the 99 so they did update it . Problem with stator was sometimes it would not start no spark on any cyl and pull your ass off and maybe half hour or 6 hours it would start. ? Had me puzzled for a while . Good Luck with yours they are fast and heavy . Point and Go!!!!!! .
