Hi everyone, I am new here but it looks like a great site. I found a 1998 600 xlt special with 1600 miles for $1500 and was wondering how good of a deal it is and how good of a sled it is and are there any problems with these sleds or anything to watch for. Thankyou in advance. dunno.gif

The 98 XLT's are great sleds.

I ride a 98 LTD and it is the most dependable sled I know of. Starts two pulls cold, 1/4 hot and is decent on fuel and always gets me home. I have 6000 miles on mine and it is still like new.

SP if I remember correctly is about 95hp and so smooth.

Maintain it right and she'll last along time.

I'd sugget dumping the steel ski's for newer edge ski's, 96 studs and 6 inch carbides.

Put it on a diet of Synthetic ( I like Amsoil) and she'll run years.

I have a 99 XLT-SP and it has been a good sled. The factory jetting is fat and I dropped the needle clip one notch and the main two sizes I think. One known problem is in the rack flat slide carbs. Around 3000 miles the corners of a carb slide will break off and go through the piston. Mine happened on the last ride last year. The piece of slide broke off the skirt on the piston but didn't mess up the bore. The slides are $70/each and I put in 3 new ones ($210) plus the piston, rings and gaskets.
