I am a student at Penn State and am currently majoring in meteorology. (If ya care) anyway it looks as though a costal system may be in store for the northeast early to mid next week, many things need to come togerther for all this yet but so far the models are lookin promising for some type of storm next week on the east coast. Now i love riding snowmobile so i want snow as much as you guys do but right now it is very uncertain if there will be enough cold air in place to produce all snow. Certainly there will be snow in the mountains its just uncertain how much right now.....i'll keep you guys updated if i hear anything else, oh yeah and that annoying warm streak we have been having looks to break for good now, so were going in the right direction grinning-smiley-023.gif Pray for snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :beerchug:
QuadRacer
Thanks for the prediction ramman1505. Please keep them coming during the season. I hope you're right about the warm temps coming to an end! :beerchug:

The models are begining to all agree a storm will develope off the eastern seaboard next week, but how close it comes to the coast is still up for debate. This is a storm we can see coming but cant pinpoint where it will hit directly. Lets just hope it hugs the coast and pulls enough cold air down to produce good snow. Even if this falls through perliminary winter forecasts say PA will be 2 degreess below average and have 150% of normal snowfall this winter so it seems like there will be enough chances for storms. Were due for a good winter :beerchug:

YES, keep us updated! It WILL be appreciated. All the weather forecasts around here downplay snow events and act like they are a bad thing. dunno.gif Maybe you can be our own personal "PA John Dee"!

Keep us posted Ramman. That's good stuff.

So far most models are agreeing that a major east coast storm will be evident by sometime early next week. The problem is that we have a tropical storm with lots of warm air clashing into an extremly cold air mass. I began noticing how the local stations are finally hinting of some storm next week, it took them long enough. There had been a tropical wave or disturbance south of florida for a while now, this is the storm that will transfer its energy to a newly developing low off the coast of the Carolinas. On the onset, unfortunately, it seems the warm air will win out with a period of rain, some of the models do have the rain changing over to a period of snow for a time before the storm exits the coast. Of course this will happen much quicker in the mountains. As for snowfall totals, a definate number at this point would be an absolute guess on my part. Of course this storm is very far away, and technically hasn't even developed yet, and many things can still happen. Just keep you eye on the tropical updates on tv and watch the storm down below cuba, this is key to the forecast. Keep those fingers crossed!!!!! :beerchug:

Quick afternoon update, the costal storm is deepening and intensifying about as rapidly as a storm can. US forecast models have most precip out to sea but canadian models have precip toward central pa. As for snow well excpt in the western mountains it doesnt look too good although how fast the changeover occours is crutial. Joe Bastsardi talks about a possible 3-6 in. snow along the I -18 corridor IF all the right pieces come into place, so things can still change, but not likely. I does look for sure that we will have a white thanksgiving with at least a coating by turkey day morning. Of course more snow is always welcome. :beerchug:

i heard a predition by glenn "hurriane" schwartz that say we will be in for a mild winter:( with only 19 inches all season in eastern PA.

please tell me he is wrong!!!!!
ramman1505
I got that prediction off of Accuweather, so far we are averaging below normal and there is a massive outbreak of cold ready to be unleashed late this week into early next week. Also keep an eye out for early next week, a possible storm may form in the gulf and run up to the east coast. Still pleanty of time for things to change but lets hope for the best.
Joe Bastardi if forecasting this winter to be very volital, meaning there will be outbreaks of cold along with a few warm peroids possible like we are seeing these last 3 days. But on average the cold is forecsted to be more dominating this winter with many storms along with it. Currently the NAO is continuing the downward trend to negative along with the SOI, most likely meaning cold in the northeast and storm systems being fed by southern branch moisture. A good recipe for good snows. :beerchug:

Well we missed out on Mon. night and Tues. Damn thing cut too far south and the flow was too west to east for and riding up the coast to occour like we want to see. However we may get our shot Early Friday morning through Friday evening. Allthough this storm will pass to the south of the state current projections have intense development off the coast. This storm will be much stronger and widespread b/c of the warmer waters off of the atlantic feeding moisture into it. Plenty of cold air will be in place as well. All the models but 1 are seeing this storm. Current snowfall projections are 3-6 for much of central and northern PA with 6 or more in southeast PA. I'm feeling greedy and hoping the storm hugs the mason dixon line closer; as well as the coast that way we wind up with more snow, but i guess i'll take what i can get. I room with a guy from South Carolina and he cant believe the 2 in. of snow on the ground right now. I can't wait to see the look on his face when we get a foot, which better happen this winter. Let it snow let it snow!!!!! :beerchug:

We are to have a possible storm Thursday night into Friday. :beerchug:
ramman1505
Here we go, finally the storm we have been waiting for. It looks like 6-9 in. will easily fall in central pa. Possible more if the fluff factor is considered. Meaning 1in. rain=1 1/2 ft. of snow at about 20 deg. and 1in. rain=8in. snow at 30 degrees. Basically the colder it is the less moisture it takes to pile the snow up. However a good packing snow is ideal for sleds but with a slight base on the ground it should be perfect. Fire those sleds up and be safe. :beerchug:

Sweeeeeeet. Ramman....Yeah she's is cute. Ever her of Tom Clarke Meteorologist for WNEP? It's his daughter. My girlfriend's brother is dating her, I let them borrow one of my older sleds to come out with us last year. Look her up wen you get to Main.

Hell yeah!!

Wow, finals week is kicking my ass. Just a quick update, this next storm looks to dump about 6-10 in the northern teir and central mountains. Amounts will be cut down due to mixung in the southern and central susquehanna valley, about 3-6 on average, less south of the turnpike where it may turn to plain rain for a time. Here in the central valley ice could really add up if enough warm air fills in aloft. Lets hope the warm overrun holds off for a while. I hate when we get chances for big storms then they turn into ice and sleet mixes. We need all the snow we can get. Anyway, were laying down a pretty good base for the season, and temperatures look to stay below normal for the rest of the month. Can't wait till my finals are over so i can get the sleds out!!! Live to ride!

I also live on the lake. Try the Prommised Land trails. I have taken my wife there to learn because it gets very little use. I some times ride it by myself when I cant get a group together for somewhere else. Nothing special, but close.
Was planning to ride the club trails tommorow, but this rain/sleet/snow stuff tonight may change my plans.
Planning a trip to try the trails in the grand canyon area after the holidays.

Promised Land or Edgemere are pretty close. Edgemere has a longer system. They both have gas and food accesible. I'm 10 minutes from the pack. How close is it to being frozen over?

Mountain Top here. Ride where I can....
