Looking to stretch my ZR to 136", and can't seem to find a decent tunnel kit other than Cat's $650 kit. What have you guys used to extend your ZR's? I also need rails or rail extensions if anyone has some for sale, or can point me to a good source.
Jay
Try VanAmburg Enterprises or maybe Fabcraft, although I think that Fabcraft does mostly full tunnels. I know that Van Amburg makes tunnel and rail extensions as I was looking to do the same thing to my ZR a year ago.

For some reason the Van Amburg website isn't working.

I think Tracks USA has long track kits as well.

Thanks for the help so far guys! Trying to get in touch with Vanam is a joke. I sent them emails over a month ago and still haven't received a reply...now their site is down. I know one of the brothers left the company, but the service stinks.

Mainecat, thanks for the referral. I'm just waiting for him to reply.

Am considering the extensions from TracksUSA, but was hoping to find solid rails instead of extensions.

Thanks again, and keep the ideas coming!!! Or, should I just trade the ZR for a Firecat???????????

I know this doesn't help, but I am going to say it anyway. About a month ago on ebay an Arctic Cat mountain cat kit ( 121 to 136 ) including rails, tunnel extension, longer heat exchangers, bumper and snowflap went for a hundred bucks. Kinda makes you sick to your stomach huh? Later, Sxrlar.

0716-940 is the Extesion required, 0606-876 is rods for extension, 0716-938 & 0716-939 are Heat Exchangers required. These are the main parts & Considerbly cheaper than the Kit. -------------- Big Al

I had the same problem when I was looking for one, well my problem was that no one made an extension kit for a 14" tunnel with a 136" track. So i just built my own saved a bunch of cash. I used a couple oem sno-pro parts, grab handle, tunnel end cap, snowflap extension. I found a guy out west that I get rail extensions from, good price. If you go to my web site there's a pic of the rear skid, sweet set-up. I should have some pics of the tunnel up soon.

Don't go with the firecat, you'll regret it. They are no good in the deep stuff.

That statement is a little broad. Compared to what? Compared to a stock 121" with equal lugs, very comparable. Not sure if you've tried one in the deep stuff but I was very impressed. Climbed better than both my old ZR600 and ZR800 with 1 1/2" tracks. If you are looking for a mountain sled, then yes, it obviously wouldn't be my first pick. I had an f7, moved, went to the mountains a few times and ended up longtracking it to a 151" and 1 1/2" track. Climbs as good as a 1M, no, but better than any 136" and probably as good as any 144". I haven't had a chance to test with all makes and models yet but this year I will.

compaired to just about anything! they may go good straight up a hill but that's about it. 1 1/2" track what are you going to do with that?? that's ok for a trail but your not going very far in the deep stuff with it.
dgiles
Actually, you will find may mountain machines do very well with a 1 1/2" to 1 3/4". I assume you have been to the mountains a few times and are speaking from experience. In that case, many guys jumped to the 2 1/4" as soon as it was made available and then returned back as they just weren't getting the track speed they used to get. As well, most deep lugs over 1 3/4" are all fingers and there isn't a lot more of extra "paddle". Also, tracks come in various paddle arrangements, more windows closed, more open, depending on whether you need to move more snow, or allow more snow to clear the track. This all comes back to keeping track speed.

Not saying the 2" and larger tracks don't move a lot of snow, just they are not leaps and bounds better than some tracks smaller.

P.S. You said, "they may go good straight up a hill but that's about it". That is kind of the idea of a mountain sled. No?

Going straight is good for hill-x or drag racing. If your boondocking and that's all you can do your going to have problems.

1 1/2" is a good trail track but when you get in the deep stuff you'll just dig a trench and you'r all done.

I'd CALL Vanamburg. Get the rail extensions from tracksusa (I'd get 8" rear idlers) I had no trouble with heating up with the stock heat exchangers. Get some ice scratchers from Holz Racing products and you should be fine even in low snow conditions. I'll post some pics when I get my sled put back together. I've got some extensions for the stock rear idlers (from my 02 zl 500) $30 plus shipping.

Thanks for the info Boeing...look forward to the pics when you have it ready.

A firecat not good in the deep Powder? You need to come ride with us. We take them most places the mountian cats go in Idaho. If you get real deep powder, it takes you a couple of more passes to get up the steep mountain, but a good rider can get there. My brother and I both ride F7s in Idaho and have few problems with deep powder.

They make good extension kits for this sleds also. imo.gif
