I ride that area often, When I come up for the weekend I stay in Altmar, I'll hit the hill on Thurs. and Fri. and then ride south on Sat. A group ride sounds good to me. Maybe meet at the Grist Mill at say 9am back at the little pavilion in the back coner of the parking lot? :div20:

Are you refering to riding on the lake or hitting the trails around the lake?? Or a little of both? The West Rome Riders club grooms the trail into Verona Beach State Park and then through Rome to Taberg and N. Rome areas. A loop can be made to Constantia. That's a great "round the block" trip!! I do it all the time. That club also has a Charity Ride/Poker Run the first Saturday in March with a fireworks show in front of Harpoon Eddie's in Sylvan Beach at night. A GREAT TIME!! My sled is a SaberCat though, is that still alright????lol

I ride in the Oneida area but from Oneida north and west. Never did a loop around the lake though. Could never find the way around south of the lake. You guys know any maps that could help me out?

I ride the Oneida Lake to the hill all the time. Although not presently a cat rider I do appreciate all brands. I live on the south shore, Bridgeport. Lets hope for a long cold snowy winter.
Below is the local snowmobile club on the south shore. They are relatively new and are doing a great job. A worthy club to join if you do not belong already.

I spend alot of time on and around the lake. My most common area is between Stars, Coopers and cross over to Constantia. I never seem to get to the south end of the lake.

I grew up on the South shore and have lived on the north shore for the last 6 years. I know the trails in up and down the south shore and the way to the south hills ( morrisville/nelson ) through both canastota and oneida. The south shore trails are easy to learn and the night life is a lot better on the south shore of the lake.
The north shore riding is great as well, the trail system is more elaborate up here and has a lot more riding to offer. I know all three ways to the bottom of tug hill, C5 thru Central Square, C4 through panther lake ( the most traveled) and the back way through Mc'Connelsville/Camden or even Rome.
Anyone that waould like to ride with us can shoot me an email, we leave from my house on Saturday mornings all winter. C4 is behind my house and I have plenty of parking in the drive. If the lake is froze I meet my friends and the Nice and Easy in Constantia about 8 am Saturday Mornings.
Fair warning, we are aggressive, fast paced riders. We don't spend the day at the bar getting drunk. We like to finish the night at the south shore bars where the women will take tops off for a sled ride

Who has the best maps for the south shore trails?

Madison Co. Tourism (with their club's help) put out an accurate map.
Watch out for the "unauthorized" maps that are out there. A printer from Richfield Springs is doing one that has no input from clubs and snowmobileny.com always does their own inaccurate ones. Stay away from them. They're just along for the free ride on the backs of the hard working, all-volunteer snowmobile clubs taking from the clubs and their advertisers!!

I went from the 81 crossing by hungry lane up past the hill by the power lines... however the statetrail is beautiful, between 37 and the golf course was immaculate kinda looking forward to going riding this weekend, if ya wanna ride PM me we will be out and about riding with a group of 600's

I rode C4 north wednesday night and it was shit, mthey groomed but there was really nothing to groom. however C4 railroad bed was like highway.
The panther lake C4 trail is still closed, the swap look worse then I have ever seen it, and the groomer simply just turned around. The ice is thick enuff to hold the wieght of a sled, but not a groomer. I would have to guess the water is 3-4 deep under the ice.
Take the side of Ct RT 17 after the intersection just north of Onieda lake straight to panther lake, looks like it will be the only way for a while.
