I am making this post in Vermont Forum at the suggestion of fellow HCS members who have been posting on the Trail Work Pictures thread in the General Forum.
http://www.hardcoresledder.com/forums/inde...showtopic=89041

Those who ride in Vermont should be aware that the heavy wet snow that fell on October 25 caused devastation to many of our trails. This wet and heavy snow accumulated in the higher elevations to a total of nearly two feet and fell on trees that still had not shed their leaves. The result is widespread snapped and downed trees and basically a huge ugly mess. This has put a serious strain on local clubs who were already swamped with other last minute projects. Many have compared the damage caused by this early season snowstorm to what occured during the ice storm of 1998. I attended a Washington County Club meeting at VAST headquarters on Monday evening and every club at the meeting mentioned that their trails had been effected by the storm to some degree.

I highly recommend that everyone who rides in Vermont contact their local club and volunteer to help clear the trails. The damage in many areas is daunting and it is likely that many trails will be impassable on opening day (Dec 19) unless everyone pitches in.

These pictures were taken in central Vermont, home of the Mad River Ridge Runners.

It would be great if other clubs could post storm damage pics to this thread.

I am disapointed that you have not recieved more pledges of help.

GaderX, a 648 and a few guys with saws would clear a lot of trail..if you don't make mud..

It's hunting season right now.............out of respect for the hunters and because many of our club members are hunters..........many stay out of the woods right now other than major projects..........as not to disturb them..............when it's over we'll be in there like flies on SH*%%$! gettin things ready! :div20:

Screw the hunters, they have the rest of the world to hunt.

I'd rather displace a hunter than be clearing trails or building bridges on trail opening day..lol..

During the last couple of weekends our club has been working on projects that we thought we would have the least impact on our deer hunting friends. I picked up a couple of hunter orange hats at Wal-Mart for cheap and recommend that everyone wear one the next couple of weeks while in the woods.

Here is a pic of our new bridge.
