Full Version: High idle??????

I was just wondering, during warm-up, following a cold start and once the choke plungers are seated(I have Keihin 39mm flatsides) what else, besides pilots, regulates the fuel flow?

My sled will idle for several minutes at around 2200rpm until it warms up. It will then suddenly kick down to the normal 1500rpm. What causes it to decide all of a sudden to drop down to the proper rpm?

I seem to recall it would do this last year as well. I am just concerned as to if this is normal? Since last season I have rebuilt the top end as well as completely dismantled the carbs and cleaned them. The choke plungers have also been replaced as they were a little worn. I was jetted a little rich last year so I stepped the mains down one size. After re-installing the carbs I adjusted the idle rpm syncronized the slides, and made sure I had the proper choke lever free play.

This sled has always started on the first pull for me. Even after having not been started for several weeks at a time. Even after the rebuild it started on the third pull without even priming. It runs like a top but should I be worried about this?

Thanks,
Trevor

That is normal for any sled even my citation does that..it just needs higher rpm to warm up on a cold start..its better to let ir idle high untill it drops and then go for a ride then leaving when it was still idleing

If your sled does this, it is adjusted well on the low speed circuit.
