The biggest reason a touring sled weighs so much more is because of the 2up seat, backrest, and rack.I just removed my 2up seat, back rest and rack and replaced it with a single seat.I dropped at least 50 lbs.The back rest alone is a good 30 lbs,the rack is 10 lbs and the 2up seat is easily 5-10 lbs heavier.

Also a touring has electric start which is going to add 25 lbs.The battery 15 lbs the starter, ring gear, levers, and extra gear in the chain case all add up to the extra weight.
