Hey, Guys. I am new to snowmobiles and want to Know the good and bad of the sled I just bought.

great ride, no hook up. will lose every race you get in. As long as you are not a racer you will love it for trail. If you don't know shock history get them rebuilt. m-10 is a bit hard on shocks. For that matter any 2001 should have had its shocks rebuilt at least 2 times by now. Consider installing fasts 100/300 front track spring. I don't like the polaris spring.

JB, I guess by your signature and reply you are in the shock business. Can you tell me how much to rebuild both shocks? How about hte fronts they look cheap and may not be rebuildable any sugestions?

Friend of mine has one since new. Has 6,000 miles on it and loves it. Never a problem 12/13mpg, good ride and he holds his own trail riding. It is no slouch on the lake either. You will be pleased unless it is beat up or one of those lemons that can be produced anytime.

His in non VES so burning cheap oil. I think they were made both ways.

In 2001 the 600 Classic still had the "Big Block" Non VES motor. It is good - but harder on fuel and not as quick as the "Small Block" VES 600. The 2001 XC SP 600 has the "Small Block" VES motor and Edge rear suspension.

You may want to look into the a couple of things.

1. I think the Big Blocks have water pump belts that are a wear item and may need replacement.

2. I think the bolts on the Oil Pump on the Big Blocks have a tendency to loosen up.

I own a 2001 Classic. I love it. Check out my profile to a pic. of it. I believe it has almost 8,000 miles on it now. Never had any major problems with it. Acctually none at all. I have V-Force 2 reeds, slp boost bottle, slp big horn air intake, dyno port silencer, and I got the stock pipe ceramic coated. It desperatly needs a shock rebuild though.

Listen to JBshocks. Put the 100/300 front spring in, add a shim to slow the compression down on the forward shock, usual rebuild for the rear shock and take it out for a spin. You won't believe the difference!!
