RICHARD REID

November 9, 2005

Dear Sledder:

I apologize for any misinterpretation of my earlier offer, I was hoping to make your sledding process very simple by encouraging you to buy your membership from the North Bay Club.

I am a supporter and rider of the North Bay Snowmibile Club and their trails are awesome!

If you would like to join me in support of the club I will pay $20 towards your fuel if you purchase a trail pass from the North Bay Club, (i.e. permit is $180 if purchased by Dec. 1,2005 - your cost is only $180 and you will receive a $20 fuel cheque.

The process is simply, to contact, by email, regular mail, or phone, Dee Hughes of the North Bay Snowmobilers Club (see below for contact information). Information required for application is your name, credit card information with expiry date, year, make and model of your snowmobile as well as the serial number.

Make sure to ask Dee to be put on the fuel list to qualify for the $20 credit, which will go to the first 100 purchasers.

If you need to contact me please call my assistant Nancy at (519) 249-1500 x 21.

Thank you for your support and feel free to pass this letter on to your friends and family.

Happy trails - see you there.

Richard Reid

Scam for sure, North Bay is in a 705 area code and there is no such promo going on just fishing for cc info as usual, Henn get on the case!!!!!!
mitchell
Before you say that this is a SCAM you should try contacting the North Bay snowmobile club. I heard about this from a friend so I went ahead and faxed in the form with my Visa number and I got my trail pass at $160.00 I understood from the North Bay snowmobile club that Richard Reid is one of there members who is wealthy and he is attempting to help the club out by getting more people to buy their passes from the North Bay club instead of the clubs in southern ontario. I posted this because I thought this was a good cause.

Lke I said earlier you should contact the club before you say this is a scam.
mitchell
One other thing if you look at the contact information for the North Bay snowmobile club, it is a 705 number, the 519 number is for Richard Reid (his assistant).

Maybe you get your permit and he kicks the 20, in then buy's up half of Future Shops weekly flyer on your CC :smilielol:

Just pulling your chain mitchell, great way to contribute if ya got the coin, shit I bet that club sells more than a 1000 permits each season without the promo. He must have a big wallet setting up that kind of promo

:cn: No offence :no_bashing:

But before you guys try to save $20 think about it for a second

IF YOU RIDE THE NORTH BAY SNOWMOBILE CLUB TRAILS it is a good deal :div20:

BUT IF YOU DO NOT RIDE THERE then do NOT buy from them

This type of thing will hurt YOUR club trail conditions :frech32: as the trail you ride do not receive the $$$$ while North Bay receives the $$$ for trails YOU do NOT use :frech32:

AKA BUY WHERE YOU RIDE :div20:
vooodooo
Not that I am goimg to buy from them as I do want to support my local club, but how true is your statement.
I heard from a member of a club, that the club only recieves about 5$ from each permit purchased sold by them and the rest goes to the ofsc to be re-distributed as they see fit.
How true is that?
maidstone
if its cheaper buy it :beerchug:

This guy would donate directly to the club if he wanted to help , still say it is a scam, if he wants to give me 20.00 then why not ask for proof I purchased my pass there, anyone who send cc info via e-mail is a fool.

I was told the club gets almost half of the permit cost when someone buys it from them and the rest goes to the OFSC for 'pooling'. I will try and confirm some time.

its the real deal, I talked to them.

buy where you ride
yamanet
I have sent an e-mail to the club and called them as well....waiting for an answer. I'll keep you posted.
toddszr600
The amount you get from a permit varys by club using some formula like , miles of trails, grooming hours, fuel consumed etc., but I believe its usually in the under $20 range.
I dont think anything like this can be condoned by the club as Ive heard competition for permit sales outside your area is not allowed, buy where you ride but you cant advertise elsewhere unless there is no club in that area.
Dont quote me on this as these are just things Ive heard, but am not sure if these are official rules or not.

I'm a little skeptical when it comes to giving out my credit card #. That's all.

The problem with the pass system is you want to get the cheaper price so you buy before Dec.1. But who in southern Ont. is in their riding area before Dec.? So you buy the pass at home where there is no snow or trails that are open because it is cheaper. It makes me sick when I go to Royal Distributing in Guelph and there is a line up to get a pass when more money should be going up north. There are a lot of people who don’t even ride in southern Ontario, but buy passes here.

dosnt the club ya bought ya pass from from last yr send ya an application for this yrs pass sometime in OCt? thats the way thay do it in NH , and VT. Mail it back, have it before ya even resady to go, no standing in line , no extra $ first ride out. and ya dont even have to leave ya house to buy it. And your $ goes where you ride
teamskidoo
they should have a page on the ofsc web site that shows how many passes have been sold for each club, and then have volunteers go out a few times a week just to keep a record of the trails systems in ontario to find out where most people are sleddin. i talked to one guy up north who gets really pissed because guys buy their passes in the south and then head north all the time. the only benifit to this is that the hotels and restraunts etc make some coin as where the clubs make nothing but spend more time grooming. that way the clubs who are makin tons of money and doing little grooming can set up some type of structure that would best help out the struggling ones. just a thought, if anyone has any thoughts please add. i have only been in the this hobbie for a short time so i dont really know all the in and outs of how the ofsc structures funding.

but like always buy where you ride.

Hi

What this individual is doing is against OFSC and MTO regulations regarding permit sales.

Riders should buy from where they ride.

In regards to how much a club gets to keep from a permit depends on their trail matrix point rating. The amount sent in varies from 78.21 to 169.94 a permit. Only 1 club in the province is at the highest level.

The money sent in to the OFSC is used for insurance and variety of trail programs.

In fact a major portion is redistribute to the clubs but at a district level.

So please buy your permit from local club where you generally ride.

Yea, but what club is Royal selling permits for? MSR or something? A lot of dealers in the South here sell for snowmobile clubs in the North. I buy where I ride because the club members told me that they get a much larger portion of the selling price if they sell the permit. I just think it's the right thing to do anyway, why not support the club where you do the majority of your riding. :beerchug:
hate2looz
O.K., I just finished speaking to my club and here's how the permit sales work. The larger the club the less money they get. The theory is the more members, the less they need back because they have a bigger amount in a pot to draw from. Our club pays $90 for a permit and sells them for $180 before December 1st, which means the club directly gets $90 per permit. She said the smaller clubs pay about $30-40 per permit which means they receive $140 from the permit sale. It is a formula based on the number of menebers, amount of $$$ in the bank, number of KM of trails, etc. Now we know how it works.
FreezerBurnt
+ there is a matrix of km per trail for $$$ for signage etc

Buy where you ride :div20:

Just heard back from ofsc head office and they are putting a stop to it,so if you were considering don't bother this hi-jacking of other clubs members has ended.

Hello , This issue was brought to our attention on the weekend and
the appropriate District Governor has been notified and remedial action
is being taken. I see by your address that you are in Coniston so I
have copied your own Club's District Governor.

Best regards.

I spoke to Dee Hughes this morning. She is the treasurer of the North Bay Snowmobilers Club. She cannot sell a permit for less than $180. (MTO and OFSC rules) But what she said is, once I purchase my permit from her, she then mails my info to Richard Reid who then sends me a cheque for $20.
This man is apparently an avid wealthy snowmobiler who likes to promote this club. If you remember, 2years ago , rumors were that North Bay was about to fold as a club since membership had fallen drastically. This guy does not want this to happen.

FYI
I will probably buy my permit here in Sudbury, since this is where I ride from, but it is tempting. I guess I could use the money and get a free lunch...free gas...free....??but I'll pass
polaris1234
Well put Mike. $180 is a cheap price to pay for the trails we get every winter. Anyone who would stoop to this level is putting the whole system in jeopardy. I hope no one has been foolish enough to fall for this gimmick. Buy where you ride and help keep your local trails up to snuff.
toban
Perhaps OFSC should look at changing the purchase information. Maybe have a section where the purchaser could either put in the name of the snowmobile club or if they don't know the name, put in the district number area where they will be riding. Any monies derived from just district entries could be divided up between all the clubs in that district.

Thanks.
FreezerBurnt
I just want to add

The guy has good intentions :div20:

But it was not well thought out how it would affect other clubs budgets

Ok..I was reading everyone's replies and it seems that I was the only one that actually did it!!
And guess what happened??
I faxed my info directly to the NorthBay snowmobile club--Att: Dee and she sent my name and address (AND THAT'S ALL!!!!) to Richard Reid's company and I got a check sent to me via canada post for $20.00....just like that!!!
P.S. I did my research and talked to Dee and Richard's assistant personally and they explained exactly how it worked....
SO THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A SCAM....since we ride up there we helped out the club and made out with an extra $20.00.....
I will definitely do this again next year!!!! Happy Trails..... luxhello.gif

If you ride there fine buy it from him

But if you do not ride there,it cheats the other clubs
