I bought some new head nuts to go over my engine shroud because the old ones were rusty and ugly. Though when I took the four nuts off over the cover, one of the nuts and studs were rusted together and the whole stud came out. I put the other 3 new nuts back on and torqued down, but I have to get a new stud for the cylinder because i ruined it trying to get the nut off. So, how to I put this stud in correctly? Do I just hand tighten it down and then put the nut on and torque the nut? Do I have to use any locktight on the bottom of the studs? Am I supposed to put locktight on the Head Nuts? Sorry for so many questions, but I want this to be done right so all my time isnt wasted.

Thanks David

Put some red locktite on the threads on the end of the stud that threads into the cranckcase and just torque the head nut down. Torqueing the nut will also tighten the stud into the cases. Re-check the nut torques after you put some hours on the motor. :div20:

Are you sure about the red locktite. That is the stuff you can only get out if you put heat on it, so i would bever really be able to get it out again. The dealer said it take some stuffto lock it, i forget the name, but its not locktite. Though ill just use the weakest locktite they have on the bottom of it.

He also said not to put any locktite on the head nuts, just torque them down, is this correct? Because I have a new stud and a new nut, so it could probably loosen up quite easily.

Thanks

No, just locktite the end of the stud that is going into the cases.
