Anybody using carbides from Bergstrom Skegs? I have been running Woodys Doolys for the past 2 seasons. They pretty much eliminated darting, but they have a lot of drag, they're heavy, and they are twice the price of conventional carbides. I was just shopping online for Dooly prices and stumbled onto the Bergstroms web site. Sounds pretty interesting. They claim that their runners wear much longer than the competition, and they say that they have shims that can take care of darting issues. I searched on Google and came up with a few different forum threads where riders mostly raved about the Bergstrom carbides. Have you used them? Do you recommend them?

I use them and wouldn't put anything else on my sled, ask him about shims and ski savers also.

:help: Can you guys elaborate on the shims? My carbides wear out in the front much much more than the back and it seems like I need to bring the front part of the ski up or something. How can I fix this?? Is that what the shims are for?? dunno.gif

no..the shims are to help save your ski's. they take up a lot of the wear where your skis would normally get chewed up. They also put a different "footprint" on the snow, which should help with darting. edit: er wait...thats the ski savers. I didn't actually have any shims with mine then...i guess the USI skis don't require them??

I haven't ridden a set of carbides, but just in a few conversations with Scott Bergstrom via e-mail, he got a customer for life!! He was extrordinarly helpful!! If you do a search for Bergstroms on here, you will find some pics of the runners after like 5000 miles...they still look great!

I was just showing this to someone yesterday. The first pic the Bergstrom is on the bottom with 4,500 miles on it and Woody's is on the top with 3000 miles on her.

Second pic in the Bergstorm on the right 4500 miles, Woody's on the left with 3000 miles.

the shims are for more pressure under the back of the ski so the carbide wears even. The ski savers are to protect the ski and help darting but they do work togather to eliminate darting. the carbides that you'll find in the search are mine.

Wondering what the shims actually look like. I got two pair of good and ugly skegs and one set of triple points and the ski savers but it appears that no shims were included.

Thanks

I love my bergstrom skegs, I am using up a set of ?? (whatever came with my SLP's) and can't wait to put on the tripple crowns... they are the best thing since sliced bread! THEY TURN LIKE NOTHING ELSE! and they last way longer then anything else out on the market.

Plus, Scott B treats every customer like he was family!

GREAT PRODUCTS!

I use the trail grabber screws in my ATVtires too, they are better than any other "screw" out there.

I just talked to the owner of Bergrstrom (He's a super nice guy) and I'm going to be starting a group buy within the next day or two. From everything that I've read and seen locally, the Bergstroms are by far the best skeg that you can buy. :beerchug:

Thanks for the feedback guys. I ordered my triple points last night. Seems like an excellent guy to do business with.
