Full Version: Stupid License Plates

Has anybody here had a problem with mounting their license plate on the snowflap instead of the tunnel. On my old sled it was mounted on the tunnel, and when i took it off, it left a big mark in the aluminum, which the guy in Ontario who bought it isn't going to like. I don't know why this province doesn't join the 20th century, let alone the 21st, and let people put their registration numbers on their hood, with a validation sticker. Or at least use a sticker for registration tags instead of that ugly plate. At least that way it can somewhat match your $11k+ snowmobile. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

But, I digress, my original question, anybody been hassled by RCMP over putting their plate on the flap?

Thanks,

The plate to be legal is to be mounted on the left hand side of the machine so it is visible while riding in the ditch. This is what I was told by the people at the insurance agency when I got my first plate.

Other then that I'm not a fan of the stickers, I would much rather have the plate on my sled, with a piece of foam behind it than a sticker that will leave a mark forever..but just my thoughts..

I don't mount my plate, just shove it in the pouch.

4MULA is correct. Law is to mount on the left side of the machine. There has been some talk about registrations stickers similar to Minnesota and Ontario, but I haven't heard anything lately.

I mount my plate with a couple dabs of silicone. No drilling, you just pry the puppy off and most times it takes the silicone with it.

I'd rather have the plate than the decals on the hood, i think we all remember those horrid white reflective reg stickers we used to have to run on the hood.

We have to put those big white rectangle stickers on either side of our hood here in N.Y.,looks like crap!!!!

we mount all of ours to the flap, dad got pulled over 2 years ago and the cop reemed him out b/c it just HAS to be on the left side of the tunnel. My dad told him that it would be the day when he drilled extra holes in his 10,000 sled (when he bought it) just to make the cop happy. You want to give me a ticket, then give me a ticket, otherwise, fuck off!

LOL. We still have them on our flaps and havn't been bothered since.

Oh...he never got a ticket by the way. dunno.gif :div20:

Those big ugly registration numbers are alot worse than a little plate, seems most agree and I hope they NEVER come back.

The left is correct, on the snow flap that usually is covered in SNOW is one reason they don't want it there....the ugly factor is higher with a puke yellow plate in the middle of a snow flap, it's not as noticable on the tunnel.

Plate leaving marks ?.....put a rubber washers or O rings between the plate and the tunnel so it doesn't rub. :frech32:

Look at the grey numbers on the bottom of the hood to the back. This is legal in Ontario. Looks they are meant to be there, n'est pas. Why can't this province realize that people don't want the monkey puke yellow an baby shit brown plate marring up their sled. Those numbers are larger and more easily read than the plate and don't ruin the asthetics. Just my $.02

skipp, those I could live with I guess...
I was talking about the ones we had, the big 16" long White reflective decal that took up 1/2 of the hood, and knowing this Province that's what they would bring back.
