I've had this sled in my garage for almost two years and I would like to get it running so my daughter can learn to ride this winter on it. I could get it to fire up on ether but the fuel was not flowing from the tank to the carb so I installed a rebuild kit on the fuel pump and replaced the gas lines but it still will not pump fuel from the tank to the carb. I'm not sure hwo the fuel pump actually works but I simply replaced all the parts that came with the rebuild kit and ran the gas lines exactly the same way they were hooked up to the tank before, but I don't think these were original lines so they may be installed wrong. Basically it looked like one line went from the nozzle on the tank to a very small brass fitting on the bottom of the carb/fuel pump and the other line was the fuel to pump inlet. When I cleaned out the tank I noticed thatthe nozzle going to the fuel pump inlet had gas line attached to the inside of the tank reaching down to the bottom to siphon from the bottom of the tank. The other nozzle which I figure has to be some kind of vent line going to the previously mentioned small orifice brass fitting on the fuke pump had a shorter fuel ine about 4 inches going to the inside of the tank.
So I added fresh premix and began pulling the recoil hoping it would start pumping fuel to the carb but nothing happened. Am I supposed to somehow prime the pump to get it started? Or is there something wrong with the way my lines are hooked up? I figured there has to be someone here who has good working knowledge of how these bottom of the carb mounted fuel pumps work and might be able to point me in the right direction. If it's easier to describe over the phone tha ntype please feel free to call me 847-909-5792 I'm in Northern Illinois near Chicago.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The line that goes inside the tank has a check valve in it. I would make sure that the valve is operating correctly. If you don't mind the taste of gas unhook the line at the pump and give er a suck. If you can't pull gas thru the line the check valve may be stuck. It happens when the gas in the tank varnishes up from sitting in the tank. Kevin

I have the exact same problem with a Tillotson carb. I have to use ether EVERY single time to get it going. But once it is started, it will run forever. I had this problem before and after I rebuilt the carb, I just accept it as a cost of doing business with a vintage sled.

Any ideas? :help:
