I made a terrible shot on this buck Sunday night and haven't found him yet. The bad thing is I cleanly missed him last year also!!

Biggest deer I've ever seen in the woods. I'm not sure why the body looks so small in the picture. He'll score close to 160!

Nice buck!! Hope you find him. :div20: Have you found your arrow??
thesweeper09
yea nice looking buck.... and yea did you atleast find the arrow to see if it was covered or not?

Sorry to say it but if you havent found him yet, he is probably coyote dinner. Nice buck though!! Good luck finding him.

Arrow was a complete pass through stuck 10" into the ground. Hit right above the spine in the neck. Good blood for 200 yards then nothing.

I just hope he survived.

Missed him last year in the 150's
Hit him this year in the 160's??
Kill him next year as a B&C????

I still feel terrible about it...STUPID shot. 13 yards standing broadside. BUCK FEVER!

Hopefully the buck will still be around, can't imagine that, though. Bad shots happen-too bad the animal suffers for it, though. I imagine that you are one of the hunters who practices and then practices some more. The ones that I detest are the weekend warriors who just bought the bow/rifle/shotgun/muzzloader and then go out to shoot at something that they probably don't have a clue what to do with when it is dead, if they can even manage to hit it.

A couple of summers ago, one of the customers at my marina approached me in a manner in which I thought he was pissed about something I did, as it turns out, some asshole had shot a deer in the back with a bow, the arrow still sticking out of its back as it was swimming from an island to mainland. If I could ever find that jackass, I don't think that I could keep my cool.

Chris, if it was ABOVE the spine in the neck as you said, most likely it will survive. Not trying to ease your pain, just being honest from what I have seen. Sounds like you gave him a bad piercing. There is a good amount of fat/tallow right where the neck goes up from the back. Any lower and you would have hit the spine and then had an ugly situation to deal with. A deer flopping around.

Steve is right though, to many warriors out there. I get sick when I am Gander Mtn. and see a women with good intentions buying a bow/gun for her husband or S/O as a gift. I have a co-worker with a bow from K-Mart about 5" to long in draw that his wife got him for his birthday :banghead:

For the record Chris, I am quite jealous of the deer you get to see. I can only dream about such a deer where I hunt, which is probably why I could care less about hunting anymore. I have proven I can take a deer year after year for a long time, but feel after 22 years I deserve a wallhanger for my perserverence and ethics. But it's not going to happen where I hunt dunno.gif And I can not afford a "hunt of a lifetime" out of state.

I agree with Beagle1. That's a very nice deer, a great shooter. I think your guess on the size being a 160 is a little off. That deer will maybe reach the 140"s. I still wouldn't let it pass me without fling a arrow. Here is a photo of a 162 I shot last year, you can se the size difference in the two.

Saskatchewan :beerchug: I'm like you I am to the point of disapointment in our deer heard in Michigan, I used to hunt the UP for the last 15 years. Between the bucks being shot before maturity and the local poachers you chances of seeing a real nice buck are very slim. I'm hooked on Canada now, a little $$$ but well worth it. I just look at it as a vacation. Instead of going to some stupid beach for a week and spending all my money on  and dance_2.gif and only walking away with a sun burn and T-shirt I choose a hunt of a life time :div20:

Very nice buck. My dad has a 156 that looks very similar to that, but a bit wider.

I just found out last night that the one I shot survived...and is only a 9 pionter so not the one I have a picture of...I thought the picture made it look small.

So I do believe the one I shot is even bigger. I just compare it to my dad's 156 and I am sure it is heavier with longer tines...so I say 160ish. Hopefully I'll find out soon.
