Would a DG Can make my 94' indy 600 so loud that I would get in trouble? I live in michigan. I have never had any pipes or a can on my sled, so i don't know how loud is too loud. also if anyone has had a DG can could you please tell me how it sounded and your sled performed with it on.

I have a dg can on my '97 XLTsp. It's has a good rumble to it, espcially when you are on it. I do not find it obnoxiously loud when compared to a fully piped sled or a race can. I have heard lots of stock sleds that are louder and quite a few cans as well. So basically it's somewhere inbetween.

Here in MN there is no noise limit per-say and I have run it without hassle. I also ride the south shore of WI where there are very strick noise/exhaust system laws. I've gone through several check points and have been waved through each time. I suppose if they weren't busy and were stopping every sled, I'd be busted, not so much for the noise factor, but rather that it's simply an altered exhaust.

If your worried about a can and only run those areas a few times a year, the can be swtiched within minutes. Something I should do, but am kinda lazy sometimes.

Forgot, concerning performance...

Personally I believe any manufactuer or personal claims over say 0-3hp are bullcrap. For my sled, the seat-of-my-pants-dyno cannot tell any difference. As you can see above, the weight savings are very real which in some small way should have a positive impact on the performance of the sled.

you will gain nothing but sound. Beside that I don't think you will get a ticket.

Thanks for all your help

Wisconsin does underhood inspections in a sting operation. i suspect MI does as well but less often judging from my experience in a border city. WI tickets on an ordinance that is NOT decibel related. it is modification that creates excessive sound. now they may be developing a better standard to test sleds but have not heard anything on that. my stock 1996 ZL600 was checked underhood a couple years back. a can is useless for HP and only will close trails. pipes develop HP and will close trails.
