I have been scouting quite a bit this fall and have not seen nearly as many deer as i have in the past years. Been out with the bow twice this year and only seen a few deer. This is unusual for the area i hunt last year i would see 2 to 3 bucks a day. Of course the weather hasnt been the greatest either. This morning in the stand, at about 7:15 this coyote walks in and i wack it at 6 yards, and it took off. I had good blood on the arrow and never found it, although when i was looking near the pines i saw another one, but too long of a shot. I just cant believe how many of them are around, the tractor paths have paw prints all through the mud. Just wondering if anybody else is seeing an increase in population where you hunt

Up north(northern wisconsin) we hear wolves all the time at night. I was up last weekend and we heard them right down the hill from the cabin in a swamp. My dad's saw a couple of them hunting. I think they are a cool animal but it sucks they kill deer. I dont care if the dnr says the wolves arent a problem but we hear them all the time. We've had one come up to the house and chase deer out of our feeder! The dnr collars them so i would never shoot one. Besides killing one isnt gonna do a lot. They reproduce quickly. I bet in 10 years there will be hunting season for wolves. Do cotoyes kill a lot of deer? It seems like they would be too small and not fast enough. I would rather have coyotes than wolves. We've never seen any coyotes by us....prolly becuase the wolves would kill them.

Coyotes kill more deer than wolve's do, they kill for the fun they will go in too deer yard's and kill every last one, they are not like the wolf which eat's what it kills, the yote will not eat the deer just a bite here and a bite there, the wolf eat's the whole deer, and kills again when need be... yes because of their size they can be hard on the deer population. with the yote they are very effective predators, deer size game is not a problem, not sticking up for the wolf but it is a better manager of the game it kill's... and yes wolve's will kill coyote's as will coyote's will kill fox..... when i lived in the thumb of michigan, growing up fox were everywhere, hardly heard of a coyote, now twenty year's you hardly hear of a fox running around, coyote's are the the worst of the two evil's as I see it . hope that help's a little..... I heard last week that the state of Virginia put out a $500.00 bounty per coyote.

Any other states doing this yet?

Damn....if it was $500.00 per I'd be on my way!! It's $50 and $75.

VERONA, Va. (AP)--Augusta County is offering a bounty for the killing of coyotes in hopes of reducing the number of farm kills.

The Board of Supervisors established a $75 bounty per animal between Jan. 1 and April 30, and a $50 bounty between May 1 and Dec. 31.

yea there are way to many around here ... lots fewer deer around here the past few yrs..... wish they had a good price on their head.. cause there would be alot less of them around here
Pol900
at $50 a head I could do it full time, lots of them around here but I take down everyone I see.

the ones in New England are a different breed , actualy a cross between a western coyote and a canadian timber wolf. Can realy range in size and color, If ya into reading check out a book called " americas new wolf" its a good read and was written by some old hunter , woodsman from north country

This coyote chased my lab abot 200 yards across my back field and I got him when they were about 75 yards from the house. The coyote was about 10 yards behind the dog and both were running full tilt.

Has your Brit actually killed a coyote? My Brit would not have done to well again a coyote at all. She sure didn't do very well against a VW Jetta either. Damn, I miss that dog! trau14.gif
