I wonder how AC is going to handle the fact that on the 09's the secondary needs to be machined to achieve 1.507... (I had mine done at my own inconvenience and cost) Maybe an updated secondary clutch is on the way for us.
What about all the blown belts? the question is: Is AC going to come good or just pretend that that it didnt happen?

We all know it wasn't you, the "other offset bar" has been around since '05, and guys have been running a different offset since the firecat days..

A better fix would be a primary with the taper located to move the clutch outward,

So.... What are we supposed to do? I really don't think Arctic cat is going to do anything for us. Simple fact is not everyone is having belt trouble. My guess would be if your having belt issues, you will have to pay for this fix yourself. Even if my belt lasts 500-600 miles, I would still want to have the new offset. Most people who have changed their offset have reported much cooler belt/clutch temps. Way to go cat.

Hey Cuyuna, what was machined on your primary? Are you sure they didn't machine the secondary? This is the first Ive heard of the primary being touched.

Hey Say...

I'm not sure of all the details 'cause it was a bit of their secret recipe, but they machined the sheaves in the primary and added a shim. I can tell you for sure that whatever was done has WORKED. Give them a call at Birch Point Marina / Bobcageon ON.

Hi Krom,

Not sure if this was exactly what you mentioned about the primary, but I put the above post out last year because it really worked well on my sled. No more blown belts and the sled pulled way better than factory setup, for sure.

Can anyone recommend a place in SE Michigan, where I can take my sled and have the offset fixed? Not looking for cheap or fast, much rather pay to have it done right. Thanks

to check the parallelism on the clutches you will need a straight edge, and a pair of calipers.

1. Open the secondary and remove the belt
2. lay the straight edge in the secondary, let it rest on the center post of the primary, make sure it is long enough to extend slightly ahead of the front edge of the primary.
3. measure the distance from the straight edge to the back side of the primary (rear)
4. repeat this for the front, the measurement should be .060" longer at the front than the rear.

No one wanted to hear a word.. its funny.. then I tried again last summer.. same thing.. so just did what was right and aligned them my way..

Hi Dan, so what's the word from Cat on this issue of achieving the 1.507 offset?

You think moving the primary out is a better fix? Making some pretty big hp with these sleds boosted and with bigger turbos and what not, extending out the primary puts extra stress on crank. Secondary I would think is better modded.

Please stop whining, my head is starting to hurt. Snowmobiles are cheap money, and this is easy to fix. We had to fix it by cutting the back of the secondary, and it is about a 2 minute process. No worries.

Sorry if my "whining" is bothering you. I didn't intend to offend anyone with my post. I'm just trying to find a good place in SE michigan to fix my offset. One place I talked to said they would have to machine the shaft along with the secondary. Sounds a little longer than a "2 minute process".

Call another dealer. We did not touch the primary, so bact to a "few minute fix". If you measure it like Krom illustrates, you will see what we are talking about. If you printed off Krom's instructions and brought them with you when you dropped the sled off, half the work would be done before you start.

to check the parallelism on the clutches you will need a straight edge, and a pair of calipers.

Probably a dumb question, but will this change the dimensions on the Supreme Tools Jaguar ZI motor mount plate? I want to run one of these, and I was curious. The way I see it, this will only work if the motor is "parallel", correct? If the setting was "off", this plate would not even bolt up, correct? I know that the new secondary setting will not matter for this plate, but I was curious about the other changes.

My sled came with no shims behind the primary so I had to take some length off the inner hub of the secondary. If you measure your offset with no shims and subtract 1.507 from that you will know how much you need to take off. It can be done in a lathe and is really pretty easy.

My clutches ran cooler and belt life improved dramatically. I still blew a belt in the UP, but that was with 500 miles on it and I was running at the 230 hp setting. I also have a slight problem with the button, I like to hit it way too often!

machining the sec will fix the offset, what about the paralism
I think paralism is as important as offset......Both should be in spec for proper belt life
