Well I finally got to ride a new Nytro last friday. Fit and finish was excellent. started it up and jumped a 4 ft. bank, it jumps easy. Well out to the trail. Trail was pretty flat with some small whoops and held it to the bars. Engine performance was far less than I expected. No big arm stretching pull at all. I ride a modded Apex and came from a F-7 modded so i didn't expect that anyway. Held it to the bars for I would guess 1/2 mile and 92mph. I thought this sled should do better than that. My Apex in the same stretch will do 110-115mph on gps not speedo speed like the Nytro. Well then I let off the gas, shit that crazy thing almost killed me. right, left, right left darting with a forward body roll to top it off. I had all I could do to save my ass. I turned it around and rode slow back to the lot as not to crash it. Now I know some of you have gotten them to rock but I'm staying away from this widow maker. Never have I had a sled do this to me in 35 years of riding. Beware new riders, this thing handles crazy! My dealer and I talked about the crazy handling and he said Yamaha is working on a fix. Is this true? has anyone else experienced this? why would it do this? I've ridden probably 40 different makes and models of sled in my life and never experienced this before.
I also want all of you Nytro owners to know, I did not post as a bash, but for new riders to be careful and not crash. Peace!!!!

If you go over to totallyamaha site they have a lot of information on how to get the nytros handling. I've done a few of the mods and must say the sleds is finally handling well!

QUOTE(unchained @ Feb 24 2008, 10:09 PM) Yeah after 2000 hours on here and lots of money later, I got mine from being unsafe and dangerous to tolerable and just plain no fun. Ski toe was part of the fix--a small part. QUOTE(Snoxracer242 @ Feb 24 2008, 11:01 PM) If you go over to totallyamaha site they have a lot of information on how to get the nytros handling. QUOTE(NyTrOMaNIaC @ Feb 25 2008, 07:46 AM) Yep, it's as simple as flipping the rubber ski bumpers around and you have a totally different and much improved handling machine. Dealers are prepping them the way Yamaha said to, however, Scott Bergstrom recommended owners to try this 2 minute mod and it's working extremely well for most. Tell your dealer to do the same and try it again, I'm sure both of you will be very surprised. Its a start, but Yami didnt totally redesign the 09 front end with 10 changes if just a simple rubber shim is the solution.

QUOTE(U.P.Snowdog @ Feb 26 2008, 02:57 PM) I had some of what F-7 Dude is talking about on my first ride. Just had to spend a couple evenings working on it and its been great ever since.
Steering response on the Nytro is lightning quick. Quickest of any sled I've ever rode anywhere. It took a little getting used to. I can now drive deep into corners turn the skis with my weight over the inside spindle and then grab the throtte and powerslide the sled through the corner. When Yamaha offers updated parts for the Nytro I really don't know if I'll put them on. Seriously I'm really starting to like how quick the steering is on the Nytro. My buddy's 07 Dragon 700 feels like a touring sled in the handlebars by comparison. Every once in a while if I get lazy in a corner the sled can throw me for a loop but overall I love the quick handling of this sled. I am actually surprised Yamaha released this sled set up this aggressive for the masses. My sled isn't quite perfect but in most trail conditions my sled is shit load of fun. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/werd.gif) Mine was the same at first ,in fact it was so bad I was very close to going back to an apex. But after a few adjustments it now runs like a raped ape & handles the bumps like a dream.I dunno if I could go back to an apex now that it runs & handles so well. The jury is still out on that question, If i get anywhere near what I'm asking for the nytro I will have a turbo'd apex. The only reason for selling is me wanting a turbo'd sled .Everytime I see 1 I feel the need for speed. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/beer_cheers.gif) lol

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/m2c.gif) I was the same way with my Attak. The first 2 rides I was kinda wondering if I made a mistake. Now there's no way I go back to a Apex chassis unless it has some crazy HP #'s.

I want a supercharger, been thinking about it for 2 years. It's a stupid idea, can't get your money back and fuke with the sled all the time, but what the hell it's all fun. LOL I changed gears last nite in my Apex as I'm always trying to go faster. LOL It's just something we need to do. LOL

I couldn't decide if I wanted one or an apex. I opted for the Apex because of the nytro's price tag, tank size, and first year model. Naturally when the nytro hit the dealers I wanted to try one to make sure I made the right decision. So I went and test rode a Nytro RTX for about 5 miles. I liked the power although it didn't have as much as my apex. The sled was very unstable and I wasn't impressed. My dealer had one and said that once setup they are awesome. Do I regret not getting a Nytro RTX? Not one bit. The tank is to damn small, My apex was a lot less, I know I would have twisted the subframe on the Nytro, and from what I have heard from friends, top end is very poor. This doesn't make the nytro a bad sled. It just doesn't suit everyone the same.

In my mind, a ski change is something you absolutely have to do. I'm still running stockers, but I just can't trust them. Every once in a while, they come out on me in a corner and just plow off trail. Its hit or miss, a good set of slydogs or razors should cure it. I know some of them are having problems, but with almost 1000 miles I have no bending in the subframe, and all ball joints are stable. For ME, this is a great sled. I've hit rocks, smacked the sub frame on a big one, and ramped off trees with the skis a time or two, so I've expected some bending. Sorry for getting off topic. All in all, take a test ride if you can, it should give you an idea if its the sled for you or not.

QUOTE(Charles @ Feb 29 2008, 10:15 AM) It's hard to believe handling can be as bad on the Nytro as some have said. Even accounting for some exaggeration it is still pretty scary. Why can't Yamaha design a ski? Guys have been complaining about them forever.
What is with this subframe bending? Is that a common occurence? Is Yamaha doing anything about it or are they blaming it all on the customer?
I am very serious about switching to Yamaha, but they don't sound like much of an improvement over Cat. The money you pay for these things, you would think the companies could get it together! Maybe a tobagon is the way to go! Would get good gas mileage anyway! LOL! They all make a sled now and again that doesnt meet expectations or in some cases turns out to be a pile of crap. The Nytro is not a pile of crap, just has major first year issues. I have had them all and although I was dissapointed in the Nytro, I still rate Yamaha higher than Cat. Unless something has changed since 2005, most AC's are 2 year sleds IMO. Other than my 99 SRX, I have had more fun on my Cats but have put A LOT more miles on my Yamaha's.....
