Call Burt at Pro--5 (218-463-2149), this Nov he had 5 new 900 (866cc) Poo engines.
You might be able to get a good price on a head or a complete new engine or chassis component parts? Pro--5 are great folks to deal with!!! Good Luck; Rich |

all I need is the head, the 05's & 06's should be the same.
I think you guys are going to like this if it works. I just wish I had a dyno in my garage and an exhaust gas analyzer to verify my results. I'll toss this modded head on my sled, And then after my "seat of the pants" test's. I'll send it out to someone to test it, & market it. |

Ok, This is not my invention. It is borrowed from another innovator. None of the big snowmobile perf companies are dong this, YET!! I bet they will be after they see what this mod does.
The benefits shown by this simple modification have actually shown a 42% improvement in fuel economy on a Briggs & stratton 4-stroke engine. On boosted or higher compression 2-strokes it has shown more compression or boost can be run on lower grade fuel with no detonation. Cooler running engines. and all sorts of other benefits that were not thought of until after the mod was performed and realized. I am betting that with this Modification, and proper clutching we should all be able to hit that 120 MPH limiter in the ECM on the liberty 900's. and on carbed sleds we will see even more because we can lean-out the sled and run more advance. (soemthing we currently cannot do on our sleds) I wish I had another twin to do this too, But it looks like my Switchback is going to be the test monkey here. I have already done this mod to my 4-stroke Snowblower (Don't laugh!) and noticed several benefits like it starting easier, less fuel used, less bogging down under load. it is such a simple mod, anyone of you guys can do it. I just want to make sure it shows as good of a performance increase on these sleds before letting the entire cat out of the bag. I wish I could say more right now. |

Gettin2old - on a serious note I'll realy guess. Are we talking about the 'Singh' (sp?) grooves ?
Just like most things - it only seems to work on certain/specific applications. Some get real good results, some just a tad, some nill. The good news is, it shouldn't badly effect anything. All manufacturers and models of engines are different. Then we have different types of motos to boot. What's good for one, many times isn't always just as good (or even good at all) for others. But anyway - what ever the heck you are involved with I Like your style. Now you see what I do for a living - ain't it fun !!!! :beerchug: -------------------- "Your motor will tell you what it wants. Are you listening ?" - Darin Morgan

i wonder if it is any thing like the fireslot heads we used in kart racing, but that only seemed to work on the flathead briggs engines, now you got us all thinking and wishing :div20:

"Singhing" the praises of groovy heads? very likely
I think this will work guys, Look at the squsih bands of these liberty's. it almost 50% coverage I am betting that 3 would be they magic number 2 mm out from the o-rings, and 1.5 -2 mm deep. CFM, have you played with this yet? |

No I haven't, but been apart of 4 cycle (american V8's) that have. It seems to work best when the piston makes the combustion chamber into two or more cavities when the piston is at TDC during the combustion process. Problem with a high dome in this situation is that you lit off the compressed a/f mix before TDC (ignition advance is typically 30°-40° BTDC and then the piston dome keeps the flame from spreading across the rest of the chamber. So, these grooves are starting to be placedin the comb chamber and also some newer piston designs to get the flame travel more uniform. No easy feat.
The grooves are pretty new in the above applications (even though a real old idea) and R&D has really just started. Then again, we have newer cyl heads and piston combos that don't have near this issue, and thus these grooves don't so much if any improvement. Anyway - I'm 2 cycle stupid. I'm so caught up in 4 cycles that my brain deflates when I try to study 2 cycles. That's where you guys come in - and I greatly appreciate that !!!!! Let me know how it works and if positive I'll get all groovy with you. :div20: This post has been edited by cfm: Dec 19 2006, 06:01 PM -------------------- "Your motor will tell you what it wants. Let me know how it works and if positive I'll get all groovy with you. :div20: I want to get groovy, I just need a donor Liberty head to get groovy on. I might see huge gains, I might not. I actually see where a 2-stroker could benefit more from this than a 4-stroker. Thanx for the support. |

Anybody have a pic of the piston top and combustion chamber on the 900 ? This could answer a lot of questions.
Update: Here they are from Ebay add linked below: Now, just need piston dome pic. Or if it is a pure flat top just tell me it's a flat top. Is there a difference between the red and gold heads?
I don't understand how grooves can do what is being suggested. But then again there are a lot of things I don't get. If I could get 120 mph consistantly I sure would like to get me some grooves. Good luck. |
