Its official..... yammi not only topped the 200mph barrier but did it with an additional 10mph on top of it. Its a legal record as ISR and SCM were both on hand and verified it.

Pretty cool that anyone has taken the snowmobile world this far. Will be interesting to see if any others step up, I imagine they will. We are all crazy like that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grgrin.gif)

(IMG:http://i31.servimg.com/u/f31/09/01/15/32/photo_13.jpg)

This is the same motor that was pushing 180 in the full bodied, stock type chassised Apex

Give credit where it is due.

The guys that built that sled and the man who drove it. Seriously Yamaha had nothing to do with it.

http://lcn.canoe.ca/cgi-bin/player/video.c...080927_moto.wmv

there is the video on youtube as well when it still looked like an Apex.

Amazing, what these folks have done.

It is pretty ironic...as Chris Reid wrote: "Richard from the PassionYamaha Forums sent me an email reminder this morning about a very interesting event which will also take place this coming weekend. Gilles Gagne and his Attak team from Gagne Lessard are going to make their final assault on the world snowmobile land speed record. Gilles is pictured in this months Supertrax with his G Force Division twin turbo Yamaha Attak. The magic number is 200mph and if I know Gilles, he’ll most likely exceed it. His dream was to perform the run during the Bonneville Salt Flats speed week but the promoters of the event do not have a class for sleds and consequently required an additional 30,000 USD to establish one, ouch! The record attempt is now going to be for the Guinness book instead and will take place at the Val d’Or Airport on the 27th. Good luck guys.

Yep looks just like my apex when I take the skins off....NOT

I do agree that the yammie was a logical engine choice. The apex motor has been force feed for several years and has proven tough making big power.

I believe it was done at an airport so I would assume the runway was prolly 6-7000 ft.

If it isn't on snow or ice, it shouldn't be a SNOWMOBILE record.

I think that Val d'or has a 10,000 ft long runway which is probably why they went to that airport. It is unusual for such a small airport to have a runway that long.

The 192 mph record was done on ice. It has been argued whether it was done in 1320 ft. or 2000 ft. Only those who were there and paying attention would know for sure, but it was a max of 2000ft.

If this took them 7000 - 10000 ft. to get this speed I'm not so impressed anymore. Other than the giant cohunas the driver must have that is.

Anyone have the official distance?
