So I peeled back the front 12" or so of my left ski skin the other day as I was crossing a small stream and the metal ski went above the edge of the ice and the skin went under. Is this common? Has anyone else ever broken a skin?
If I end up just replacing the skis with plastics, can I get just any skis or do they have to be model specific? Are there sizing guidelines? Who likes skegs?
Plastic skis are a very nice upgrade from the metal skis. I have a couple indy 500's and an XLT all 97 & 98's. That is the FIRST thing I did after I bought them. Shaves weight for sure, and depending on what skis you buy the handling is much improved, even just with the stock OEM plastic skis.
Any plastic skis from the 98-2005 Polaris sleds will work, maybe even some of the newer ones...not sure. 4" carbides would be fine for an unstudded track.
I always liked the steel ski's with the skins for some reason. To me, they seem to bridge the stutter bump/whoop sections a lot better than plastic ski's. I had plastic ski's on my 05 F7 and I thought they sucked as far as feeling every little imperfection in the trail.
Was in another ditch and got the right side ski on another piece of ice. WTF! I was able to smash out the ice and prevent any real damage to the skin. I'm tek-screwing the tips of the skins to the metal skis to solve this little problem....
i just got a pair of blue edge skis for $130 off craigslist. i had a helluva time gettin one of the old skis off cuz the bolt was rusted to the bushing haha. but i eventually got em bolted up
