Welp I was in the same boat, went D&D off the bat and had great results, then I got a little more curious and jumped into the TD stuff, there are many here posting setups I grabbed up the most common one and it was game on. So it seems there is just as little tuning involved now with the TD setup as well. I was almost on the money first ride out just had to add a little heel weight and it was right where it needs to be.
IMO now that I have run both it is alot nicer to have A the knock light and B the lighter clutching in the trails. The 4 map certinly is good! |

I guess my biggest mistake with the z1 big turbo was to clutch to race and then trail ride it. always in too high of a gear. I tried to cover the best of both world and now realize it cant be done. Although it was so fun to show up with my trails buddies and pound on the lake race guys for a while. Piss them off cause a trail sled just whooped them. Then take off for more trails.
My take is to clutch light for the trails ( way mre responsive) and if your gonna race have a total different set up for that????

Trail set up, dont need a good holeshot, needs good mid range snap. A touch heavier on secondary spring, maybe 20-30lbs. And Please dont use the daltons....I know everyone likes them for how easy it is to adjust the weight, and I know they do the job...but there are sooo many better weights. I have seen the old heavy hitters work better then daltons. So far I like the STM X series the most. You have better choice in weight placement. |
