Default Gas/oil ratio chart and How To

Maybe sticky this?

How to figure out mix ratios: Ok you got some number like 30:1 or 50:1 or whatever and you want to know how much oil to mix in the amount of gas you have... first need like units ie.. gallons (gal) and gallons or ounces (oz) and ounces. Normally gas is in gallons and 2 cycle oil is in ounces so we need to convert one to the other ... just convert gallons to ounces.

There are 128 oz in a gallon. - trust me!!.</B>

128 oz of gas mixed 50:1 = 128oz / 50 parts = 2.56oz Yes when you add in the oil there will be 51 total parts this is not a problem you are using a mix ratio Ie. mix 50 cups of gas with 1 cup of oil ... or ... 50:1 ... Ok ???

Don't over analyze this: The engineers of the motors for our sleds tried to make it easy on us.

Or for the math people ... Where

G = Gallon(s) of gas you have.
M = Mix Constant (ie 50 if you are using 50:1)

G * 128
------- = oz's of oil to add
M
If you are still confused just use the chart below... find how much gas you got on top and your ratio on the side and meet them to find the amount of oil you will need. "In ounces (oz)"

When i was mixing for my 440 i would run it 50:1 and didn't have any problems, it was fully trail converted with heads, needles, just not oil injected. I had my tank marked every 2.5 gallons until full which was not 10.5 gallons. and for every 5 gallons it was about 16 oz of oil, this would give you around 48:1 if i remember right. and it was simple math from there depending on how much you needed, and from the markings on the tank it was easy to know how much you needed. i would always carry around a quart of oil which is 32oz so i could get 10 gallons. this is just my method on mixing and it worked great for me, and if you were off my an oz or two its not a big deal the ratio isn't going to fluctuate that much.

Easiest math is 40:1. 10 gallons fuel, 1 quart....5 gallons, 1/2 qt (16 oz)......2.5 gallons, 1/4 qt (8 oz). I never go beyond that and just get pretty close. Am normally about 7.5 to 8 gallons per fillup and put 3/4 of a quart (24oz) of oil in. This way you can get pretty damn close with just any regular quart container. After years of racing motoX, and messing with ratio rites that go 2.5 gallons at a time, I gave up. Take my 5 gallon jug to the pump, dump 1/2 qt in, and fill it up.

Truly easiest way is to buy this round container that is marked to different ratios....I bought mine in the marine section at Fleet Farm....looks like a nalgene bottle basically. Holds at least enough oil for 40:1 and 10 gallons and fits nicely in my packpack water bottle holder.

Never thought I would ever say this but. .... This is where the metric system is better. I hate metric sys most of the time but..... 40L gas tank on sled 1L of oil needed : 30 - 750 ml 20 - 500 ml 10 - 250 ml 5 - 125 ml all for 40:1
