About the only thing that goes bad with a Yamaha is the W arm, the welds crack and then you have to have them rewelded and gussets put in the corners. The W arm is located in the front of the skid where the front shock is. All in all they are awesome sleds. N. Il. where at?

Yes, I know where that's at, 20 miles from me, any luck with the new purchase yet. Do you know the guy selling the sled?

A friend I ride with has an SXR 500, though I'm a bit uncertain of the year. I think it's a great sled for a beginner. The ride is typical Yamaha... too stiff with not enough travel, but it's super stable and allows you to sit and steer without feeling like the sled will tip. It's got good power but nothing extreme. Super reliable overall.

The SX 500Rs were underpowered, got terrible gas milage, has poor ride quality and were known for the front w-arms breaking.
I wouldnt buy it.

Better mpg then ZRs 500 or 600s

I actually do not mind the 00-01 SXr chassis, rode no worse then my ZR,when I swapped sleds for awhile, the only I hated was the lack of weight transfer

With proper clutching they can surprise people

IMO The 01 SXr500 is an excellent 1st sled

Hebi it is not like its a 1990 Cougar

The 500 is an overachiever & don,t listen to octane. It won the 500 trail stock class at haydays in 03 & took 2nd in the 600 class. with clutching this little sucker rips. It is hard on fuel tho compared to a triple but it flat out flies. i have clutched a few of these & they surprise a lot of 600,s.
