I am looking at 2 sleds, one is a 01 SRX 700, with 2700 miles, studs, and bar hooks??? It is in pretty good shape, track was replaced last year. He wants 1800.00 for it. From what I have read this sled should not have crank problems correct??? Is there anything else I should look for???

The other is a 01 SXR 700, 3400 miles, with studs. Also in nice shape, for 1350.00..

What is the real difference between the 2. I am not looking to make a racer, just something to ride. If I go with the SRX, I may do a little clutch work, and maybe a can, which I have read up on..

Thanks for any opinions..

Both good sleds, both good prices.
The srx has PV's & triple pipes & makes apprx 140 hp. It has long legs known for it's top end performance. Great lake runner. It is one of the best handeling trail sleds when set up properly. The downside is the 8" rear suspension which becomes obvious if the trails get whooped out. Not a ditch banger at all. No crank problems on that year. Other than the general things to look over on a used sled, get a good look at the "w" arm at the front of the rear skid. Look over the welds on it real close as they have been known to crack. They also need premium fuel.

Someone else can chime in on the sxr. From what I know it has no PV's & a single pipe. Not sure on the hp...maybe 120. I believe it has the same rear suspension but with 11.5" of travel. I think you can run regular fuel in them.

Both great sleds, one of the best from yamaha.

SRX triple triple 145hp('00 to '02) flat land lake racer fast, not a big bump sled but rides good no crank
problems from '00 to '02,great head light(300w magneto) always always premium fuel. very reliable

SXR triple single 112ish hp better ride(11.5" of travel)run forever great on fuel super reliable
great head light(300w magneto).takes well to mods.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.. Are the engines the same, except pipe, I wouldn't expect 30hp from tripples?? Also what are the thoughts of a M10 in the rear of either.. Not really looking for a ditch banger. Just a nice trail sled. As you can see I have my Ditch Banger. I have read they are extremely flat in the trails if set up right. I read you may get to 100 acrossed the lake also???? Lol

Sorry to be a pest, but can you run a 1.25 or 1.5 lug with or without a M10??

Thanks again

Engines are totally different...

SRX has electronic servo controlled power valves that adjust port timing for maximum
power through out the power band with TPS sensor and agressive porting. it takes the twisty's trails like on rails.

M10's can be modded in yes

srx isnt quite 145hp stock, the 98-99 make 138-139, the 2000-02 were 140-142 for a ringer, I have had many of them on the pump(dyno) before but they do run very well for a 700. The sx/sxr engine actually has more potential to gain with a few mods then does the srx. Yamaha really didnt leave all that much left on the table with the srx like they did the highly under tuned sx/sxr red head triples.
Either engine and youd be happy with the right slight mod changes, the suspension is where youll see the GIANT differances in between the machines, the srx is a lake runner with a nice 8 inchs rear/6 inchs front, however, the sxr is 11.5 rear 9 inchs front, it isnt even close to compare them on a bumpy well traveld trail, so having said that, I would look into how you plan on using the sled be your guide .

I agree, I've owned a 99 sx'r 700, mod, and it was the toughest, hard hitting motor, I would purposely run over my buddy's 800 mod polaris ski as i would walk by him at 100. He did not like it, especially the pipes on his side!

Both are awesome sleds, I've always wanted a SRX but never got one. Which ever one you buy, take a good close look way up underneath on the front of the skid frame, the one thing I didn't like that Yamaha made was plastic bushings that went between the skid and the tunnel, and they will eventually wear out. Good bad idea, not sure, but something to look for, mine didn't last long. Maybe my lack of greasing, not sure.

I had a 99 700 SX'r with Hauck Husher triple pipes, head gasket mod, Hauck clutching, V Force Reeds, and that sled sang, I never got beat with it. My wife has the same sled, same pipes, on a 2000, she loves it. She got to tell everyone for Xmas years ago, she got pipes.....Hauck claims...."like 27 hp" for these pipes. Little hot air I think but they are a wake up call for the sled.

Good Luck, let us know what you get!
