Default 99 Indy 340 // chaincase/driveshaft questions

I'm working on my kid's 99 340 Deluxe, to which prior owner added a newer Edge chaincase cover/reverse setup.

It's leaking a little chaincase oil around the driveshaft, so he and I are going to dig into it to replace the driveshaft bearings, at the very least. It's been >20 years since I've had a chaincase apart on anything, and that was probably a mid-70s Yamaha, so it will be a bit of a learning curve for both of us.

I've got the service manual
and I'll go get some parts and advice from the dealer too. A few questions I'm thinking about ... do I really need the jackshaft install tools specified in the manual, to put everything back together? ... are there any little (or big) headaches to look out for on this job? ... and what else should I replace while I'm in there?

Clarify. Edge chaincase cover, or edge chaincase? The edge chaincase cover doesn't fit that Indys chaincase.

Don't forget the rear chaincase seals, seal sleeves, and seal sleeve o-rings.
