Default How to diagnose possible stator problem

98 XC 700 was running good and all of the sudden it died and wouldn't start. Pulled the plugs and there was no spark. I heard from multiple people with XC700's that they have had to replace the stators, so how can I diagnose if the stator is the problem, or if you guys have any other suggestions that would be great.

Stator can be ohmed out. check it cold and if spark comes back and it does it again, check it hot while there is no spark. If it checks out good both ways, more than likely the CDI. Looking for the specs, but having trouble finding the sheet. Someone else might find them first.

Brown to Yellow 0.12-0.15 Ohms
Brown to Base 0 Ohms
White to Green 5.3 to 6.0 Ohms
White to Base 0 Ohms
Red to Blue 150-190 Ohms
Red to Base Open
Black Open

And like "Ridin' Again" says check it cold and when it warms up and quits. I just did one and it was pretty obvious because it failed every test of every wire. RON

Very likely has same specs. Stators were junk.

97-01 700's without VES and 98+ 600 big blocks all used the same stator.

There was also an '01 600 Classic that had the Kokusan ignition as well, so not "all" big block 600s. There was a '97 XC600 twin too, spring release, just like the XC 700s, all the same stator specs....

As far as the "no spark" condition, could be either the stator or the CDI module and I've seen both with about equal frequency.
