Hello everyone,
I am crossing my fingers someone here can help me with a belt/clutch problem been having for 2 seasons now.. I have a 2003 rx-1, after about 25 km of driving i start to burn my belt. in reverse the sled doenst even move, just burns the belt, big smoke show. in forward. the sled sloowly starts to move, but at the same time the belt is smoking. Have a feeling the primary clutch isnt catching, and the secondary just spins as i give more gas and thus burning the belt. Does anyone here know how to fix this? ? i am an electrician and noo mechanic, but i am capable of fixing with instruction... please, any help is greatly appreciated especially as this is my last week to ride till next winter |

Check the clutch alignment, my first thought. Do you hit you clutches:belt with emery cloth before putting it on?

Emery cloth scuffs the belt and the clutch surface, making it grip instead of slide. Also, make sure to break in the belts, don't just slap em on, pull the cord and pin it, you'll glaze em pretty regularly if you do it like that.
But ya, like I said, sounds like the clutches aren't aligned. Good luck

You probably have a problem in the secondary. May be a broken or weak spring or bad buttons. Check it by removing belt and see how easily you can rotate the inner half backwards. Should take around 12 lbs to move it backwards. If too weak, or sticking, it will cause belt slip. Possibly, someone mis-assembled it at some point.

alright, i just got back from the rx1, First i took the belt OFF.
took emery cloth to the belt and cleaned the clutches, and used emery cloth on them too. Checked the secondary, move the inner disk, and it moves about quarter turn, then springs back, no sticking, it was smooth, but would only move quartre turn if that. put belt back ON, in forward, seems fine, primary clutch moves and seconary moves allowing belt to fall deeper in the clutch.. in reverse, primary clutch moves fine as i give more throttle, then the secondary doesnt move, almost as if it locks up and the belt stays on top of clutch, so the more gas i give the primary speeds up, but the secondary just sits there and the belt starts to spin an smoke ![]() then sometimes! when i put back in foraward the secondary sticks again! ![]() this is complicate as i cannot find the service manual anywhere on the net to take apart secondary clutch... Could this be a bent axel??? anyways i may be going to dealer on this one eh? let me know what you think!! |
