Me and my son-in-law were just talking about this yesterday. We are hoping to get back up to the UP in about 2 weeks, but this time for a saddlebag trip from St. Ignase to Copper Harbor and back. The only thing that bothers us is a worst case scenario where we really get in a bind with perhaps a ride ending break down. Then what would we do, hundreds of miles from the truck and trailer ?

I've never expected anything for nothing and I would only bother someone in the worst possible pinch and make it worth their while. That is the way I am and I would insist on it. But just knowing that there is a few people I could try to reach would be priceless. We would be better then 500 miles away from home before we even set out, so there isn't too much anyone from back home could do for us.

What a wonderfull idea ! Perhaps you could have 2 lists. People that are in the UP and would be willing to lend a hand and a list for the lower penninsula guys. Of cource, while on a trip I would be more then eager to help out a HCS member.

Last year, I happened to see a sledder take a dip in the infamous river near my place... long story short, about 5 deg out, he was 35 mi from home... he'd have froze. Towed sled to my place, let him stay inside and get out of wet gear for about two hours while buds got the rig. Gave him some nice hot coffee and munchies... I felt bad, that would suck!

What goes around, comes around...

Great idea. I used to repo vehicles in a previous job. I have names & numbers of many tow companies that would be good to have depending on where you are. It would save having to call a million different numbers to get help on the way. Just a thought.

Hey - Count me in. I am usually driving up either to the UP, Cadillac or Gaylord....I don't mind being on a list to help...plus, wouldn't mind one if I needed it. Let me know.
