ORLEANS, Vt. -- Vermont State Police say a bookkeeper is accused of embezzling about $151,000 from an Orleans business.Police say 47-year-old Kimberly Brooks of Brownington was cited on Wednesday on charges of embezzling from Demarais Equipment between April 2008 and March 2011.Brooks worked as bookkeeper for the company for 13 years.Police say she was cited to appear in court on March 27.Brooks could not be reached for comment.

Hmmm, wanna hear a true story?/ When Copps was in business, 2 of my friends stopped there to buy hunting licenses, out of state, and their first time here, they thought they had to buy the deer tag seperate from the small game, so they paid (back then) $70 plus another 30 for the small game,.. when they got here I told them they didnt need the small game, it was inclusive with the deer/bear tag. So the next day, they went back to get a refund for the $30,.. the owner was there this time and could NOT FIND ANY RECORD of ANY liscence sale!! The girl who was working for them pocketed the whole thing,.. if they didnt go back,.. this might not have ever been discovered, if the economy wont kill ya,. your employees just might..,..

A few years ago the owner of a little store/deli/ fuel station (reg only) in E Brookfield told me that the environmental insurance for his underground tank was the same as any other and much larger station. Now I'm not saying that his tank can't pollute the soil as much as any one elses but goodness these little places are as important to the towns as their post office. Also the Walden General Store - those folks who had the pizza place would post here.
The embezzaling story & Demarais..that makes how many this year alone???
Now more $$$ to convict & pay for their housing & rehabilitation...make em pick up trash & live in a tent.

On top of that they have lost 2 of their bigger lines of farm machinery, gehl which stopped producing ag machines a few years back and massey ferguson which recently switched to a competing dealership due to desmarais not selling enough units. Chances are polaris and arctic cat have been hard after dealers to move units in a year like this too...

Come to think of it, The danville General store is gone now as well,.. but Martys was responsible for putting them out of business.

How can you blame Marty's for putting the Danville General Store out of business? Marty filled a need in that area and at least he is a local who started a business and has successfully grown that business.

No blame,. it is what it is,. I know Marty personally, great guy, great family.. just saying that a few short years after he opened up, all the business went there instead of the Gen store,. better location, and eventually better selection,. thats how I run my business as well,. Im helping to put out of business a few of my competitors as I type...
