Is possible that they broke something going to pan trails? Been there a bunch of times and yes they are stressed but I have seen Ed in North EastCarry be pretty rude to people to. We all have days. A friend of mine told me last year Mike at Bosebuck yelled at him and his friends, And he is as nice as they come.
Mike most likely yelled at them because they were riding across the area where his NO SNOWMOBILES sign is. That area is part of his septic system. Mike IS a nice guy.
Now for Kokadjo: I had a place on Wilson Pond and rode the area for years. The last 5 have gotten worse every year in the Kokadjo / Roach area. I rarely rode the Lillt Bay side to / from G-ville because it is notoriously BAD. I always rode the Pleasant River side. Yet trails got progressively worse there too as years progressed. Too much trafic ? Maybe. Not enough grooming ? Possibly....
Trucked to Rangley and guess where I ride now ?????
As for the folks at "the store": Not the nicest. Period. Bought food, and gas there as I took friends for rides through the area and they said.... "man what a B--CH"...
Agree: If someone with a smile and a friendly welcome put a store / fryer and grill within 10 miles of there that place... They would close.
Now, to their benefit: If and only IF, they are, or intend to do a better job grooming, they may benefit from it. Time will tell.
However, "she" would still need some happy pills.....
I started the thread for one reason to find out the conditions becuz I am riding out of there next week. I wasn't the one to bash them several others chimed in quickly to do that. Do I agree yes. You have no idea who I am but obv you think you do. Wrong again. I don't hide behind anything I simply tell it how I see it and seems many others see it the same as I do. If you don't like what everyone says then don't read it but I guess everyone else is wrong but you.
I have to agree w/ the poor grooming or lack thereof in the kakajo area the last 2 years. I ride B pond trail a lot and its obvious where the trail gets better, yup, where the next club grooms to. Too bad, like the area and they are the only ones w/ gas, hope it improves this year. Trail was so rough last year the shaking/ jarring ripped my $250 GoPro right off my sled, never found it.
Grooming isn't only about making the trails smooth for the first 10 sleds or making it look smooth. Some clubs just cut deep enough to make a ribbon smooth and call it good. To keep the trails good longer you have to cut the bumps out as much as you can, but that also burns more fuel because you're setting your drag deeper. Seen it alot on Greenville's RR bed. Smooth ribbon, but after 20 sleds the bumps are back.
The last time I rode to Kokadjo it looked like the groomer was going full speed because there was snow thrown up and over the snowbanks, must have been in hurry to get back to Marie.
You guys are quick to bash someone without knowing any of the politics behind, it's hard enough to make a living in this day and age without the online bs blaring. All I know is she helped me out last summer when I locked my dog in my truck on an 85 degree day, let me use a wedge kit to pop my door, no charge, they are top notch people if you ask me, like Skip said, if you don't like it ride somewhere else
I've been around here for a good many years (since 02 to be exact) I have read many threads both good and bad. TONS of pissing and moaning about sleds, brands, grooming, equipment, gear and riding styles.
I choose my words carefully on a topic like this.
I'm in hopes this season will be better than seasons past due to low snow cover etc...
Let's hope for the best and who knows, maybe we'll ALL "bump" into each other at the Kokadjo fuel pumps someday. :dunno:
It's not like anyone knows who is who out on the trails anyways.
I was hoping to get out there and ride this weekend but have been notified I am on call this weekend so
no trail reports from me. There, "no matter how rough the trails are, a rough trail is better than NO trail or riding for that matter"
Ride safe and most of all enjoy your time riding because the season (and life) is WAY too short.
only went there one time on my way up to the county .... after getting gas for 5 sleds and a bite to eat all i did was open a map to look at quick and some woman came running over riped it out my hand yelling there not free u have to pay ... i payed my gass and food bill and left and will NEVER step back in that place as long as i live
I dont care how much it hurts but in business the customer is always right and in the end they will have the last say. Either support the product or dont. Your actions will dictate the outcome. If people truely have a distaste for the area, stay away, dont spend your money, and eventually new blood will come in and take advantage of an opportunity to expand and prospure in the area. Wagging our tongues on line does not show approval or disapproval.
We ride to Kokadjo every year and love it there. We stayed there a few weeks back and rode our SXS's. Marie, Fred and Lana were all great! They couldn't have made us more at home and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again! The Cabins are really nice and the prices were very reasonable!
I to enjoy that area. Yes at times they can be rude but also can be very nice which most of the time ive been there they have. The reason why shes prolly pissed half the time is because the yahoo's driving off without paying for gas. It seems like everytime im up there some meat stick does it and you wonder why gas is pricey up there...pretty low
With that said I hope to visit the area a couple times this year. Didnt make it up last year. Its to bad the east side had to be re-routed. That trail was friggin sweet!
I have no issues with Fred or Marie, in fact once you get to know Marie a bit she actually smiles and will joke around with you. The cabins are nice and clean as well, I simply just think they can do a much better job with their trail system. When you ride other people's surrounding systems that see the same traffic its evident they're dropping the ball, season after season.
Rockwood:12/28: The Birches Resort reports "All trails in our region have at least 12 inches of snow base with 14 inches of new powder last night. All trails will be groomed by tonight. Get it while you can.
The Birches has four groomers (Tucker Sno Cats) one of which is brand new. This will assure no interruptions in grooming ,making your riding experience at The Birches the best that it can be.
The Birches cabins are always opened. Rockwood now has five groomers."
So Rockwood has 5 groomers and Kokadjo has 1? I thought all of the clubs in this area had at least 2. Oh well, let's hope they get it going soon or maybe some of the neighboring clubs will help out.

Hopefully they can help them out. if i remember correctly a couple years back Fred acutally groomed all the way to the farm for them a few times as the farms groomer had a broken frame and i believe NEC's was down for a bit at the same time
Lots of snow up there boys. I just came back from riding. Didnt go up on the north end of the lake, but west of the lake to the Forks is nice for this time of year.
I know it aint Kokadjo, but I just got home from Rangley. 2-3 feet most everywhere and pretty well groomed. Logging and Lakes (not safe enuf yet) limit some of the destinations though.
Gimme a report that Kokadjo is grooming and maybe I'll head up there next week.
Not sure don't live close enough to be involved in the situation just relaying info I heard. Not a Marie fan but can't imagine any business owner not wanting groomed trails to their place. Even when groomed that trail gets tons of traffic and takes a beatin .
I read that they called Twin Pines for help grooming....but everyone shouldn't be getting all twisted up about this shit yet...it's barely past Christmas!!
Lets stop beating this dead horse! They will groom,or the state will get someone else!!! Greenville was a goat path this weekend and who was bitching about that!

Also, i read that greenville contracter gets 75 grand to groom! The town i live in has 30 miles of roads to plow and the contracter gets 75 grand to plow! Who has a better deal?????????????????
That area has been hit hard with heavy wet snow and broken trees everywhere a week or so ago.
I know Jo-Mary is doing ALL they can do to get up and running 100% and I'm sure Kokadjo is doing the same as well as all the other Clubs in that neck of the woods.
