Default BEAST - Ottawa and area 2017

The 2017 season is here, some of the BEAST TRAILS ARE AT LIMITED AVAILABILITY (Yellow) STATUS

Trail packing started Dec. 16th and a few dry trails have been moved to limited. Volunteers are doing the best they can.

The “A” trail towards Almonte has cattle fenced in still, and must remain closed for at least another week.

The 203 @ Copeland/Conley Rd is closed due to a new landowner. 203 future status is pending. Waiting on an answer from the city.

Swamps are very dangerous with the thick snow insulating them, not allowing ice to form. It will take time to pack any wet areas.

Stay off the closed trail with this early snow. Early season trespassing could close a trail forever.

Thanks for the update. I really enjoy running the beast trails.
Please let us know once the trail across the Rideau is safe to cross at the River Bend area.
Looking forward to a great winter on the trails.

Thanks for starting this rugger.

Not sure how to deal with swamps. If someone likes to snowshoe.. that may be one way to get a first pass through the swamp areas to pack the snow, and allow frost in.

Trail changes of note:

203 goes through Munster now, down Munster and Bleeks Rd.

203 @ Barrhaven end is shortened.. now sure how much yet.

"A" trail change @ Flewellyn Rd, now goes through the developing subdivision.

Track bed Smith Falls to Carleton Place is now an BEAST trail.

If you are keen to get out and open more trails.. contact the club. We can tell you where we have permission to go, and not to go.

One "Trail Closed" sign was tore down 1 day after it went up this weekend ... society's finest among us.

A big thanks to the few volunteers who spent their weekend installing culverts and covering them with snow.

In West Carleton we are packing trails and hope to switch to grooming by the end of this week. We got a lot of water crossings though so it may be a bit still before some trails open (All trails are closed still please keep off)

Got out last night for about 100km run to inspect some trails from Stittsville down the TCT to E104 around the Ashton Swamp on the bypass & continued down the E104 to the new BEAST 311 (rail bed between CP & Smith Falls). E104 was fair as the groomer hadn't been through yet. On the 311 hit a few stones and it still need a bit more base. Took the 305 up to Franktown to the E103. They is a little bit of swamp between the turn off to the 305 from the 311 to Franktown. It was a little wet in this section so be careful. Then continued up the E103 to Ashton & back to the E104 & TCT. I was the 1st sled through most of the E103 so it was nice to play around in the fresh powder.

Had a great time out last night, cruised the rail line, and toured out to Munster and Ashton. Couldn't find the trail (203) to Conley and Copeland. Looking forward to more trails opening. Keep up the good work guys!!

The BEAST 203 goes through Munster now.. branches off the A Trail on Bleeks Rd west of Munster. It is not groomed yet as it ends in two swamps that are not frozen.

Lost a landowner to cause this change.

Trail guide updates only went in to the OFSC this week. Too many tasks .. and few hands volunteering to do them.

None of the swamps are frozen enough to support the weight of the groomer around Sudbury, what has been groomed are trails on a good gravel base.

All the BEAST trails went to RED today (Dec 27, 2016). Stay off the trails until we get more snow
