Hello My Fellow Vintage Enthusiasts,
I have always been interested in horespower ratings for vintage sleds, especially the high horsepower performance sleds.

Let's start a list of vintage sleds, and their official horsepower ratings. Include any published data, articles, or stats if you have them. Let's see how many we can get.

I'll start. Here are the specs on the Merc Sno Twisters:

http://www.mercurysnowmobiles.com/sno-twister.htm

Let's get specs from Yamahas, SnoJets, Ski-Roules, Arctic Cat Z's, and all other makes.

This site has loads of great vintage info. I'm sure you guys know about it, but there are scans of original sales brochures and magazine articles, in case you haven't seen it. http://www.vintagesnowmobiles.50megs.com/BROCHURES.html

I only have my hands on two vintage sleds.

75 Rupp Nitro 440 fan 438cc Kohler K440-2AS 55hp
74 Alouette Junior Brute 200cc Tecumseh 5hp

FWIW, the '75 340 nitro fan had 47 hp

I was told by a guy that has restored a king kat that the 4 cyl kingkats were 80 hp. seems low to me a for a big four?

Popular mechanics had a write up of sleds for the '75 model year and the '75 nitro f/a 340 was 65 hp and the 440 was 75hp. The host of the rupp message board just had stock '76 nitro's dyo'ed out the 340 was 73 hp and 440 was 93hp @ 8300 rpm. The '79 Kawi invaders where about 60-65 hp. The liquid cooled chapperals with the Xenoah 440's were 35hp.The Suzuki fury was 60hp. The 4 cyl. king cat mentioned earlier was probably low on hp. due to it probably had montana pipes on it. They don't make anywhere near the hp of tuned pipes. All the hp. ratings are going to be all over the place depending on the source, the factory ratings I'm sure will be exagerated or like the car companies of the era based on a blueprinted handbuilt unit.

I'll second that. I've had my eye on one locally. Its listed for $125. Needs some love though.

What kind of top speed do you get with yours?[/b]
Ive had it to 72. it still was pulling, but these things are tippy as hell and it wasnt perfect conditions.

john deere liquifire with a 440 kawasaki engine had a factory rating of 65 hp. kawasaki invader with the same engine made slightly more hp by virtue of more compression more ign timing.and better breathing. around 72
92 mach-1 617cc @109hp
5500 blizzard 497cc @55hp
69 alpine 50000newton/meters @500rpm lol

The 76' Sno-jet SST factory rating is a big overkill at 52 and a single 34mm Mik. I think it's more around 42-45hp IF they can even run decent beyond 5000 RPM with their shitty points magneto. I'm not saying all points were crap but that year SST has a particularly flimsy magneto!

Alot of my info is "factory" ratings.

1979 Ski Doo Blizzard 7500+ / 1979 Moto Ski Super Sonic 340 LC 67 HP ( Per Snow Goer Magazine back in the day)[/b]

WoW .I always thought they were closer to @70/75 hp. The 67 hp not much higher then the 63 hp the 340 FA RV made, but the Fee Air was only 350 lbs compared to the 420 lbs Blizzards. Can any one else confirm these #.
