Default help with bog off idle

i just got a 96 indy 500 carb ive got the af screw at 1 turn [sticker says 1 turn] tryed from 1/2 to 1 1/2, pilot jet 40 main 290, plugs look good,

comming off idle around 1800 [ says 1600 +- 200] it wont rev have to feather the throttle to get it to rev, ive cleaned the carbs one at a time, if its above 2500 itll rev fine, it just wont rev or really boggy, any ideas what needs to be done to get it to work right,

also the primary kicks in at 3500 is that correct. if not how do i change it new weights. i dont know if anything was done to the clutch.

Air screws typically closer to 1 1/2 in my experience witht them. Also, if it is warmer out- 30's like it's been here-it will be boggy. Nature of the beast without jetting down and going farther out on the air screws. I also like to set the idle up closer to 2000 on them to help avoid it.

Timing should be 28* +/- 1.5 at 3000RPM. Check it with a timing light just like a car.

A good trick is too "blip" the choke quickly then give it gas and see if the bog gets worse or better. If it gets better then you are lean and have to richen up the carbs. If it gets worse you are rich and have to lean them out. USUALLY when you have to "feather" the throttle it's a lean condition.

When you cleaned the carbs did you make sure all the openings/passages in the carbs were clear?

id say its rich, ive cleaned alot of carbs its clean, my old cat had mice nest in the intake and filled the carb bowl with pee and i got them running like new. im going by what was in there when i got the sled. the owner said it ran good so im going to try to check the timming first

.173" BTDC measured on the Mag side piston with a dial indicator will be 28 degrees. Turn the flywheel in the opposite direction of rotation about .100" and then bring back to the correct reading. Mark the flywheel and housing with some chalk or a marker. Acceptable variance is one mark in either direction (.156-.191). An extra set of hands can be very handy if you have one around to help hold things in place while you make your marks.

My 96 500 SKS Carb had a bog right at engagement (~3500rpm) that would really be bad at warmer temps. Put a Polaris Blue spring in it with stock weights and problem gone.

Not sure if this will help you but thought I'd offer it.

Good Luck!
