Default 2001 MXZ 800 motor- No Spark!

I had this 01 800 motor in my race sled a few years ago, and it just cut out, no spark. I didnt feel like messing with it so I threw a 440 back in it and ran it. Long story short the 440s out and the 800 is back in, and I'm trying to diagnose the no spark issue. I know its not the coil because it ran with the 440 in it. I'm assuming its either a bad stator or MPEM? Im not running lights or handwarmers on the sled, so could it be a voltage regulator? Also, whats the best way to test each electrical component?
