Hard start/ ruff idle when cold ????? 3.0 merc

Just bought a 89 Wellcraft with the 3.0 Merc in it. When cold, it starts very, very hard and runs quite ruff. Have to have it about 1/2 throttle to keep it from stalling. Carb looks new; previous owner said he just had it in for service for the issue. Shop had drained & flushed the tank, put new remote fuel filter and all new lines --- suspecting Ethanol issues. He didn't say anything about the carb, but it looks too new to have not been replaced (when compared to the rest of the engine components). Once warmed up, it will start, idle & run fine. Any ideas and/or suggestions ? First boat in a long long time......just don't have time to use one. But we have gotten into scuba diving pretty heavy this year and this will get us out to new locations---- just don't want to get stuck there !!!

Hey Pete ! Good summer ? Sold my 600 Pro.......waiting for the 500. But may be going 2010 600 Pro instead.....never know until the snow flies what I'll be on this yr.....at least I'm keeping my F8.......well, maybe.......................

Busy summer...got married

I am stuck on the retro for another year. The wedding drained me and now we are trying to sell our house and move into something bigger. That 500 with the D&D 720 is going to be awesome I hear. Maybe in 2011 they will put the 800 HO in the new sno pro chassis...that would have my name written all over it.

Boat seems better after dealing with the ethanol/ water issue with the stale gas that was in it from WHO KNOWS WHEN !!!!
